FlamingLiberal posted:The NY Post of all places not pulling its punches So is it now the failing New York Post? ... Anyway, some stray observations from my RWM talk radio hate listening today: - It's really loving funny listening to these people bitch about how long it takes to count ballots when they and their ilk were the ones who pushed so hard to not allow any kind of early count for ballots that came in prior to election day. To a large extent, it's the GOP's own "anti fraud" measures that legally delay counts in Pennsylvania and poo poo. Hay, dickeheads: make it harder and more of a hassle to vote and for poll workers to do their jobs and guess what? poo poo takes longer. Of course, the answer is to get rid of early voting and mail ins, according to my host; who is all aboard the rigged elections bandwagon. - Man, they really REALLY hate Mitch McConnell so I guess we've found common ground on some level but listening to this guy rail on Mitch about what a self serving prick he is who only cares about holding power was pretty rich, even by talk radio standards since that's all they preach (holding power at all costs). He delivered a SCOTUS seat and billionaire tax cuts but I guess he's a RINO now and has got to go. Which leads us to... - Herschel Walker, who is somehow super qualified and at the top of the list of the poor, poor republicans that are unfairly picked on by the mainstream media and who's had to endure terrible attacks on his family. FROM his family, btw. This dude is a demonstrable idiot and may suffer from CTE but I heard that Fetterman (who had a stroke) had some problems with verbal articulation during a debate and that should disqualify him from office. Imagine Walker running as a democrat and the never ending soundbites. How'd you like to have the entire power of the senate in the hands of this guy and try to twist yourself into knots describing how great he is? - One caller was very VERY concerned about where the funding comes from for Democratic candidates and the host agreed it was a great point. THis is the party that passed Citizen's United, said that corporations are people and called money free speech. I guess now it's a problem and someone needs to investigate. - They're also oddly kind of 50/50 on Trump and obviously hedging their bets this time. The SOn of Eric show I heard played the speech but left out the voter fraud parts and Ericson said that he gets mail from MAGAs blaming him for the election losses. He said that 13% of GOP voters have become never Trumpers (which is still too low in a sane country) but I know that's bullshit and that voters will vote for him anyway. Also, gently caress me, now I have to listen to two loving years of Trump talking dumb bullshit and constant media coverage of his crap? Much as I dislike Biden, I have to admit that not hearing Trump speak was like a wet fart that had finally cleared and dissipated. I guess that fresh air is gone. Mitch is really unpopular with average Republicans. The reality is that he's still better to the GOP than any Democratic alternative, and he controls all of the purse strings in the GOP Senate, so he's never going anywhere. I do remember prior to Trump winning the 2016 primary that Mitch was pretty outspoken against him. But for Mitch he was a useful tool to get what he actually wanted done, which is to complete the Heritage Foundation's project of generational control of the Judiciary.

Based on what I see on Twitter, the newest right wing boogeyman outrage cycle revolves around some crypto ponzi scheme that apparently had donated money to the Democrat party, who in turn supported politicians or policies that support Ukraine? And I guess the right is SUPER ANTI Ukraine given their reaction to anyone with a Ukrainian flag in their profile. Guess they moved on from Paul Pelosi gay jokes at least.

Pretty much, the gist is that the founder of FTX, Sam Bankman-Fried, is the son of a prominent Democratic party activist and fundraiser, and apparently personally donated $40mn to the 2022 midterms before his wealth exploded overnight. Basically the idea is that not only is he a democratic donor but that he defrauded Good, Honest People to fund those donations. Do young conservatives hate gay people as much as the old ones do, or is it a smaller population of young conservatives that hates gay people? Racism in America is evergreen because of our economic conditions, but it seems so passe to hate gay people at this point, when individualism and suspicion of institutions has developed to such an advanced degree. Outside of some weird subcultures (some of which make up a majority of the supreme court, true), it’s American orthodoxy that you should be able to do whatever you want.

I mean, these days young people who join the conservative ranks are either super evangelical, which means they hate gay people as sinners; or they’re alt-right memelords which comes steeped in performative toxic masculinity and 2000s-era gay slurs for things they don’t like The libertarian I-just-want-low-taxes-on-my-eventual-business-success which used to be that bastion of “do what you want” Republicans isn’t as much of a thing these days, as “leave me alone” doesn’t mesh well with “we must be constantly engaged to own the libs”. The GOP's policy of "no war but culture war" for the last decade and a half has left no room for people who aren't into the culture war. skeleton warrior fucked around with this message at 15:10 on Nov 17, 2022 |

I guess if you're already convinced "Dems want to surreptitiously launder money to Ukraine" and just work backwards from there? I heard the crypto guy was into that "ethical altruism" woo which probably reinforced their conspiracy theory- guy wanted to raise as much money as possible to donate as much money as possible, so they conclude the whole thing was a scam for the democrats all along. I watched a video earlier on the crash https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20BEJouWBgY It seems that basically as soon as the war started FTX set up a system that directly interfaced with Ukraine's central bank to aid in getting real money into their coffers from crypto donations. Levantine posted:I couldn't really care less about the political leanings of crypto scammers. They're just criminals. I wonder if part of the issue is bad faith sex pests who hide their behavior under the guise of "sex positivity" which can make people simply assume a particular kink or whatever is creepy and predatory in nature. There's a trans webcomic artist who writes about trans issues but she's also into "Littles" and wearing diapers, and it's hard for some people to separate all those things. Instead, they assume they are associated with each other.

It is still very much "removable for Saudi Arabia and China"-style queerness.
