It's a deliberate misquote, it's related to an agreement for better cooperation with ASEAN iirc, not actual membership lol. Not gonna complain about the potential agreement tho, it's nice to have, even if it won't really amount to much.

I haven't forgotten about my book-related promise, just kinda busy atm!

e: If you didn't believe me when I said certain people are eager to drop the 'asiatic' anvil on our pale white asses, feel free to read the comments to see what I was talking about. :v:

You forgot to quote the best part of this article

quote:

Despite many conversations over the years, we never talked about politics. I was surprised when he called after the party congress to talk about his “political depression.” He said he used to be very nationalistic, believing that the Chinese were among the smartest and the most hardworking people in the world. Now, he and many of his friends spend most of their time hiking, golfing and drinking. “We’re too depressed to work,” he said.

https://www.rappler.com/world/asia-pacific/china-denies-using-force-retrieve-rocket-debris-south-china-sea/

quote:

China denied on Monday, November 21, that one of its coast guard ships used force to retrieve a piece of a rocket floating in the ocean that was being towed by a Philippine vessel in the South China Sea.

A Philippine military commander said earlier the Chinese coast guard ship “forcefully retrieved” the object by cutting a line attaching it to a Philippine boat.

China’s foreign ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning told a regular briefing that the object was debris from a rocket’s payload fairing – casing that protects the nose-cone of a spacecraft – launched by China.

“People from the Philippines side salvaged and towed the floating object first. After both sides had a friendly negotiation at the scene, the Philippines handed over the floating object to us,” Mao said.

“It was not a situation in which we waylaid and grabbed the object,” Mao said.

Vice Admiral Alberto Carlos, commander of the Philippine Western Command, said in a statement authorities sent a vessel to examine the object after it was spotted early on Sunday about 800 yards (730 metres) west of Thitu island

The team tied the object to their boat and started towing it before the Chinese vessel approached and blocked their course twice before deploying an inflatable boat that cut the tow line, then took the object back to the coast guard ship, Carlos said.

...

Thitu, known as Pagasa in the Philippines, is close to Subi Reef, one of seven artificial islands in the Spratlys on which China has installed surface-to-air missiles and other weapons.

Thitu, one of nine features the Philippines occupies in the Spratly archipelago, is the Southeast Asian country’s strategically most important outpost in the South China Sea.

The Philippine foreign ministry said in a statement it would conduct a thorough review of the incident and was awaiting detailed reports from maritime law enforcement agencies.

I listen to a Chinese Canadian video. He basically explained it was a local politic thing. Basically the right party lost 3 seats I think in the Chinese Canadian districts to the left party. So they thought the only possible explanation was CCP interfering. So they insisted Trudeau brought it up in G20. Trudeau had a 10 min meeting on the sideline and threw it out to the press so he could tell the conservatives "look, I brought it up kthx."

Trudeau still should have followed the protocol and let the other side know he was sending it to the press. It's dumb because its not the kind of subject you discuss in international summits. You should talk to other world leaders and try to hook up some business, brand new business sectors even.

many liberal electoral style states have this problem right now where everyone’s popularity collapses right after the election because they were just letting you believe what you wanted to about them so you could hold your nose and vote against the other guy. generally it’s tough to be popular in a global economic crisis no matter what you do
