Why does MidJourney make such bad dinosaurs :smith:

It can make a decent T-Rex, but that's about it. And even then it does wacky things with the arms. Trying to make a triceratops just makes totally freakish monsters, even if you feed it seed images.

My attempts at dimetrodons have all been nightmares too, across all the platforms. My guess is there's just too much terrible fan art and variety of interpretations of what various prehistoric creatures looked like. You'd think it'd still at least get the fan on dimetrodons but it tends to make it spikes (maybe because of fossils?)

Probably will have to hand pick a bunch of similar pics of specific dinosaurs and train an AI on them separately to get anywhere

I interrogated an image of a triceratops in SD and it thinks it's a trilops, which is a monster from a video game.

Just noticed that nvidia's Magic3D (AI 3d model generator) paper/video is out. Haven't had much time to follow the thread recently but I don't think it's been mentioned yet

Based on the examples it seems to be best at making an isolated subject (even it it's like a house or castle) rather than complete scenes. Still pretty cool, though they say it take 40 minutes to generate a model, and presumably that's not on a single, 6 year old 1070 lol.

There's a summary here:https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2022/11/nvidias-magic3d-creates-3d-models-from-written-descriptions-thanks-to-ai/

I eventually tricked it by making a rhino then inpainting triceratops features little by little. So far I've been unable to replicate my success with a stegosaurus. Too unique, I think.

Fantastic. Could you tell us a little about your setup? Is this a variant of the loopback script that applies geometric transformation between frames?

Started with the prompt "Old God On Mars", generated, upscaled a few, generated again with those images inserted in the prompt, etc. Over time I amalgamated it into this series of images and this is what it now outputs.

This is 40ish generations in. I call it "Biblically-Accurate God"

(TBH the images in the prompt are way cooler than these final images)
