If it's made out of wheat gluten like seitan it should be pretty tasty when fried.

The molding is totally unnecessary. But it'd probably taste good - a lot of faux-poultry is really good.

Interesting article from NPR - "Inflation Won't Win Thanksgiving: Here's NPR"s Plan to Help You Save on a Meal" (https://www.npr.org/2022/11/22/1137466569/inflation-thanksgiving-recipes-substitutions) - Includes some helpful tips, but then some odd ones like: - Butter or jam too expensive to have with your bread? Use baby food! Beat the higher price of potatoes by using lima beans instead!

I loving hate every single one of the tiktok food waste videos. I mean I get that that's the point, they're supposed to just outrage people for views. But they offend me so much more than every single other thing in this thread. They're all the exact same.

There's some kind of confusion between creating an exciting look while cooking and plating, because a couple fried eggs on a burger on top of or surrounded by mashed potatoes would actually be alright on a plate if cooked separately, but they're an abomination when you try to cook them all at once. Reconstituting chips into mashed potatoes is doable, but you might get some weird flavors and too much oil from it. Definitely not cost-effective.

Like yeah it's not how I would've prepared my ground beef, eggs and potato chips, but I'd still eat it after making it for clout.

They're not eating it beyond maybe a single bite, if that. I mean, the video posted hasn't been the worst offender I've seen of this type of video (that I've seen in this thread even), but they all have the exact same cadence. Down to the cameraperson always going "whoooooa, woooooow, omigoooshhh" at the most inexplicable, deranged poo poo with food. Some examples from this thread: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/357590942209015808/1023150073368035418/4679.mp4 https://twitter.com/curlyixing/status/1385244507713777667 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rUFlU6lVQk Like they're all fake and clearly just to get outrage views but the food waste of it all makes me lose it.

These videos are made with the explicit goal to generate hate clicks. I hate it immensely. Facebook keeps recommending me videos from the same company where they do extremely fake elaborate pranks or boyfriend walks in on his girlfriend cheating, just the most awful poo poo, and I still have no idea how they monetise it, even though it's everywhere.

I think people might've eaten some amount of the toilet juice/ice cream, but I'd be more angry about the dryers getting ruined by the fake cotton candy hack. I do wonder a bit about waste with those shows where people get a whole lot of foods to try like a bunch of samples of exotic stuff or one of everything on the menu at a restaurant. You can often see that the hosts don't want to finish everything because of course they've got a lot to work through, but I worry whether they just end up with a bunch of single-bite dishes that get thrown away at the end or if they get the show crew to help finish. And financially, a full business would probably be more willing to shrug off that amount of waste if it's a business expense as opposed to a single person making a dumb video.

Miniscule food waste compared to what your average restaurant throws out at the end of the night. I get it, wasting food isn't great, but losing your poo poo over nothing compared to restaurants/grocery stores is pretty lol imho.
