The re-release in ﹰSeptember made $30 million globally which is pretty impressive for a movie that's over a decade old. I don't think it's going to do the numbers that the first movie did, but there's no way it'll be a flop.

I’m excited about Avatar because I’ll watch it in IMAX 3D, see some of the most insane visuals from a madman filmmaker, and then immediately never care about it / anyone else’s opinion of it until the 3rd one. It’s a fun theme park ride, and you don’t need to take it more seriously than that.

buckle up friendos cause ive got a really incel poo poo take about the new season of white lotus aubrey plazas character is really interesting because she seems set up to basically be a deconstruction of her own brand as we know aubrey plaza is famous for being the cute snarky girl well in white lotus shes playing the middle aged snarky wife and the fundamental question being posed here is how satisfying is it to be with a person like that long term? the answer is not so much because shes so invested the snarky aspect of her personality she completely misses a ludicrously obvious opportunity to have hot shower sex with her incredibly jacked husband on a serious romantic holiday while trying to get pregnant and shes played up like this from her very first scene on the boat before we know anything about any of the characters shes in total ice queen mode solely because her husbands douchebro college roommate and his wife are being openly affectionate aubrey plazas smug superiority is premised almost entirely on the belief that this open affection is somehow fake or only being presented for their benefit and we see in subsequent conversations that aubrey plaza straight up doesnt believe its possible to still be passionate about your spouse that far into the marriage and this is what informs her core belief about why the douchebro sucks with his douchebro characteristics being more of a secondary flaw the irony of this is that the douchebro really is a douchebro she sees him verbally abuse staff on a phone call and basically admit to being an unrepentant sex pest but despite this she actually seems to be warming up to him until he starts to do the same creepy poo poo to her that she already knows he does to other people the whole problem with her reasoning is that shes trying to caricature him as one dimensional villain whos exactly as evil to everyone he meets for the exact same reasons when in reality he has no issue being a loving husband an abusive boss and a creeper friend because these are all completely different spheres of his life and indeed most abusers are able to get away with what they do precisely because they dont treat everyone exactly the same so they always have character witnesses on standby consequently aubrey plazas snarky mindset doesnt just handicap her ability to get an accurate read on the douchebro its also causing problems in her own marriage because since shes internalized herself and her husband as good people it doesnt occur to her that their actual relationship kind of sucks and is mostly just based on their feeling superior to other people in summary white lotus season two is still good not socialist like the first season was but featuring more prescient commentary on modern relationships in order to compensate for the lack of class struggle

I think her interactions with the douche guy are great, at first it's like "ooo is she going to misread the situation and cause a huge drama" or "is he actually an rear end in a top hat" but it looks like it's gonna be option c) both. I love the grandfather, father and son - they all represent hosed-up attitudes towards women from three different generations. The grandfather is just an oblivious waitress rear end-grabber, the father is the serial adulterer and open sex addict, and it looks like the son is turning out to be the toxic entitled freak who hides behind the right language. Michael Imperioli's character looks so pathetic when he describes himself as a feminist but that's exactly what the son is doing as well, and the fact they all take turns getting on their high horses and calling each other out is just great Cookie Cutter has issued a correction as of 13:27 on Nov 23, 2022 |
