Yeah I decided to pick it up, it's dumb stupid fun. I actually really enjoy trying to puzzle out how to activate all the gabs in a scenario, and I love how the levels are just loops of these ridiculous scenarios that move super quick and let you experiment and have trying to figure out how each one works. The music is great as well

And lol at the 'Trilogy Bundle' which contains two games that's fantastic

Early access, about $20 (on sale from $22). I saw the developer posting about this elsewhere. Solo dev and this is a passion project he's been working on for seven years. It has a demo. 21 reviews right now, all positive.

I haven't tried it yet, whether it is any good or not probably depends largely on how the combat is.

The combat is v. janky but a lot of fun, it's like a mount and blade arena roguelike with a touch of exanamia's combat system in gladiatorial aesthetic.

There's a demo

I have extremely mixed feelings on this game. The story, art, music, atmosphere, and characters are all fantastic, but the actual gameplay seems to get in the way of that story more often than not. This may be my inexperience with bullet hell games, to be fair, but I've seen multiple people talking about having a lot of difficulty with this-it's not even difficulty that's integrated with the narrative, which I would be fine with, it's just a bunch of frustrating bullet hell puzzle-solving segments. Would recommend if you're better at video games than I am, and I certainly don't regret buying this and will probably be banging my head against this for a long time, but it's really, really frustrating to try to get to the story behind the gameplay. I say this as a fan of Pathologic.

yeah PENTIMENT rules. I've had no technical issues with it so far and it's a really interesting setting and gameplay for a murder mystery. Like ELSINORE (minus time loops) meets The Name of The Rose. It looks like it will invite at least two playthrus because you literally can't do everything in a single run (certain activities will help you learn clues but they advance the time of day and prevent you from doing competing activities, like you can either follow the suspicious stonemason OR you can convince a friend to help you dig up a grave for a clue, but not both).

Here's someone playing through the first few hours of it if anyone's interested. The emphasis seems to be on rebuilding, banding survivors together, and starting to make something new. A seemingly much more optimistic take on the idea than usual, starting with scavenging for resources from the ruins of the old world and eventually building back up into something resembling the old world.

Very painterly art style, almost cel-shaded, and richly saturated.

This is from a few pages back so I guess it's not exactly fresh, but I'll give this a strong recommendation. I don't know what the EA roadmap is, but I'd say it's got enough content and polish to be a full release at this point. If you enjoy building things in Kerbal Space Program or Scrap Mechanic, you'll probably enjoy it a lot.

It's an engineering/design game in which you are given a scenario with a number of objectives and build robots that can do all those things. It has a cute/cartoonish presentation that does a good job of not overwhelming you with options when you start out. The game also does a great job of introducing new systems without using overt tutorials, so progressing through more complex systems feels very natural.

The building interface is clean but, due to the number of controls to which the player has access, is slightly clunky to navigate. I'm still learning to use it, but certain things about the way pieces move in some modes isn't intuitive (sometimes you can move a piece freely through 3 dimensions, sometimes you have to use the mouse wheel to move on the x or y axis). Overall, though, it never feels like you're fighting it.

There appears to be a lot of depth when you open up programming to automate robots. The devs have published API documentation for writing code that i haven't looked at, but I think you can avoid automation altogether if programming isn't your thing.

If you're leery of EA, I'd put it on the wishlist, but otherwise I'd say it's an easy buy if you enjoy other games in the genre.

Flashpoint Campaigns Southern Storm is a grand tactical wargame set at the height of the Cold War, with the action centered on the year 1989. As the force Commander, you will plan and then issue orders and Standard Operating Procedures to your battalion, brigade, or regimental forces shaping the fight by maneuver and your intent.

The game engine is based on asynchronous WEGO turns. This means you will issue orders then watch a variable amount of time unfold on the battlefield. Then issue or adjust orders to react to what has happened as you execute your battle plan.

Flashpoint Campaigns-Cold War: Southern Storm is a deep simulation of combat operations where your forces are arranged in maneuver units of companies, platoons, and sections of tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, infantry squads and teams, recon forces, engineers, air-defense and anti-tank systems, helicopters and more. As the Commander, you will need to use available off-map assets like long-range artillery, rockets, or airstrikes. You may be faced with the specter of using chemical or nuclear weapons to support your forces on the map and win the day.

The Manual: if you order a physical copy of the game, you will receive a hardbook manual. This hardcover 300-page full-color handbook leaves no stone unturned in fully documenting every aspect of the game system, from game mechanics to advanced systems and strategies as well as designer notes and helpful appendices.

It released into early access and it very much has a strong "early access and balanced only by one person" feel to it. The concept is enjoyable, but there isn't much in the way of interesting decision-making to be done outside of the combat. The developer released a tutorial video for the combat which helps fill in the very lackluster in-game tutorial (manual camera control makes a tremendous difference!), but you can be completely screwed by random events/shop availability/random fight picks.

I really enjoy the concept and the game is entertaining enough, but it really needs some time in the oven to be truly great.

Also Evil West came out. Which I've played and is a pretty good third person action game but not too special, and everyone has heard of it already.

Just came here to post this, downloading it now to see how it is.

Edit: Played for for about 45 minutes, beat the first dungeon. This game is *very* basic, you're handed a sword and a basic "go defeat the chaos" sort of plot, and get to choose whether you walk through the Forest, Snow, Desert, or Volcano levels in whichever order you choose. The game prompts you to do the Forest place first, so I did. The whole area is about 4 screens large, with an opening area, a field, a town, a "mountain" to climb that's about as big as Spiral Mountain from Banjo Kazooie, and the Forest Temple itself. The temple has a dozen or so rooms but nothing to really speak of in the way of puzzles, just step on a switch to open a door or get a key.

Combat is extremely simple, there's not really any utility items, this plays a lot more like somebody built/bought some assets and slapped a game together out of them.

For a couple bucks and some times to waste it's pretty mediocre, and I don't think you can even say it captures the N64 nostalgia outside of having polygonal graphics, the music sounds too clean and modern and doesn't have a good hook. Might be better worth your time if you purposefully ignore the advice of the Tutorial God and just see how far you can get out-of-order, but I'm shelving it

N64 is not the nostalgia I ever want to revisit. Nor is anything 3DFX.

Commander Keen is my hero.

The trailer was a solid minute of running around very sparse environments, not interacting with anything, followed by 30 seconds of the exact same three-swing combo. The enemies didn't even seem to react to getting hit, and the trailer compensated for this by cutting to a different biome every second or two. I don't want my first post in this thread to be super negative, but that trailer was awfully put together.

It's just fine to be critical of games in here. Frankly I thought the exact same thing about that trailer, it did not make the game look remotely promising.

Not a lot of good new games but here's a few:

Early access, about $20 (on sale from $22). I saw the developer posting about this elsewhere. Solo dev and this is a passion project he's been working on for seven years. It has a demo. 21 reviews right now, all positive.

I haven't tried it yet, whether it is any good or not probably depends largely on how the combat is.

Just played through the demo of this and it's pretty fun. Very tempted to pick it up, although it's not clear to me how much more content there is in the full game. The demo cuts off when you reach a certain level (seemed to be 5 or 6) and I don't really have a sense of how often you will end up past that.

Very cool of the guy to put out a demo at all.

Retro Gadgets EA is out. It's a sandbox/toy/learning tool where you can build and program your own electronics. Looks super cool, especially if you're a Zachtronics fan. Fair warning though, it doesn't seem like it has any goals, puzzles or anything of that sort. You have a set of parts, a programming tool, and pretty much do whatever you want.
