That's ~$1.81/lb. for the more expensive turkey. A "family pack" of bacon is 24 or 40 ounces uncooked, or 6-8 ounces precooked, meaning you're paying somewhere between $1.60 and $10 (but most likely $2.40) per pound of bacon. I don't know; I think I would get a smaller turkey or a large chicken before I would even think about substituting bacon.

It's definitely not gonna be the worst thing in this thread, but I don't think there's any way I'm enjoying that more than just a scoop of peanut butter on its own, followed by a bowl of fruit cocktail (especially with fresh sliced bananas)

If you aren't using the entire carcass of the bird, why bother buying a turkey? A smaller whole bird is a better comparison point, since that can be used for similar things after the easy meat has been eaten and still feeds people for longer than a rasher of bacon.

I did this a lot for a snack when I was on submarines. Cooks would leave out pans of fruit cocktail and I'd get a bowl of that, then put a glob of PB on the side and put both elements on a spoon, I wouldn't mix them because it would look like that. Peanut butter and fruit is a classic combo, it's basically the same as a PB&J.

We're gonna smoke the still-frozen turkey in a day or two and I intend to make stock from the leftovers. But a valid argument for bacon here is "it's a whole lot less work to get food out of it for the price".

I don’t think “this is similar to the adhoc snacks on a submarine” registers as praise, so I can’t even call this faint praise.

There's one or two places here that try to get away with slapping on a couple American slices to make "cheese fries" but yeah, at least they have the very slightest shred of decency to melt it.
