They may be the minority in their party/base now and no longer in control of the flaming bus, but they could absolutely sabotage things the same way the Tea Party did to them until the extremists split away or compromise with them. They won't do this because it would involve throwing a few election cycles away and they value keeping their jobs/power over fixing their mess. Well, and also probably eat a lot more death threats from the far-right with how far things have gone.
