In Shanghai, they were protesting at Wulumuqi Road. So, what did they do to prevent this?

I’m sorry, the location of your protest can not be found.

Its weird that the seeing a huuge gathering of soccer fans, kinda drives home how poo poo the situation is.

The goverment has had years to sort out logistics and not need to weld people into buildings.

I know this is gonna sound stupid but I kinda wish I could watch videos of those motorcycle dudes riding around china during the lock stuff just shooting the poo poo.

Great now watch a week of our coward leaders gently trying to criticise China while wishing they could crush the BBC too

At a Conservative Party conference four years ago, someone doing a presentation got assaulted by Kong Linlin, a CCTV presenter/reporter. I thought she had gotten away with it scott-free, but it turns out she was fined two grand.

"Ironic quote from the lady, given the recent events posted:

“You have no right, you have no democratic [sic] in the UK, I’m a journalist here… I have [a] right to protest.”

The Chinese Embassy also demanded that she be apologised to, as if it was unthinkable that a Chinese person should be held to account for breaking the law. :jerkbag:

Then, more recently, a protest outside the Embassy in Manchester had a point when a bigwig actually came out the building, grabbed and dragged a protestor onto it's grounds and beat him. The Embassy has made a video statement threatening trade between the two countries if they face any consequences from the incident.

The biggest consequence of that journalist getting beaten up will probably be more BBC employees knowing that they'll be left hung out to dry just like him, and perhaps smaller/poorer authoritarian governments will see it as licence to threaten and beat up any BBC journalists in their countries.

Abusing the algorithm. Just post thousands and thousands of prostitute ads with Chinese city names in them, so you flood the search results and the top ones are now this poo poo instead of protest videos or whatever.

E: Doesn't seem like it works for top, but if you search and click latest it really is just all tits and rear end. Lol.

I wonder why escorts instead of the usual "wow let's talk about China's latest celebrity scandal" or "wow, a bridge/highway/train!" chatter?

I have to say this I did not think this would be how things would shake out - I figured tier 3+ cities would begin quietly charging for tests and quarantine again and that's when the yelling would start

It's banned but plenty of Chinese people have VPNs. The government generally doesn't consider it to be worth their time to enforce the laws about those. If you're distributing VPN access that's one thing, just using one to go post on Instagram or whatever normally won't get you in trouble.

I remember an announcement, maybe around 2019 or so where they said they were finally gonna wipe out the scourge of VPNs within a year. I think they assembled a taskforce.

And here we are lol

I get the impression that the government doesn't really care about VPNs that cost like ~$100/year or so, because only a tiny percentage of the population could/would even bother with that, and then mainly for gaming, and beyond that, those people were probably already hopelessly corrupted by insidious foreign influence.

However, VPN use taking off en masse would probably get a serious response.

Yeah that would be different.

They clearly don't care since they have the ability to block VPNs, they mysteriously stop working around Party Congresses and June 4 Nothing Happened Day, so the fact that they work means for the moment it's a decision to allow them to exist.

I think there also the fact that open internet access has too much practicality. If you make the effort for a vpn, I m sure that flags you somewhere and if the PTB decide you a problem boom.
