This is such a dumb joke this world cup that you have to laugh at the child like handling of it all. All to get one up on your neighbours and laughed at.

yeah, I'm trying to be mindful of not just slipping into Unpleasant Kilroy Overtones, but imagine getting literally your one and only chance to see your country at a world cup and then loving off as soon as they go 2-0 down, leaving just the hired help you brought in because you didn't feel like cheering

all of this will be reclaimed by the desert and nothing of value will be lost

The answer is, mate, because I want to do you slowly. There has to be a bit of sport in this for all of us. In the psychological battle stakes, we are stripped down and ready to go. I want to see those ashen-faced performances; I want more of them. I want to be encouraged. I want to see you squirm.

I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed:
And on the pedestal these words appear:
"My name is Infantino, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!"
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

One Day I Will Return To Your Side.
As someone who has tasted that sort of hotel catering service shawarma bread I can 100% confirm it is neither as nice and soft as lavash or normal Arabic bread it’s really disgusting dry skin flake rear end bread and the filling is as dry and terrible as you would think it would. Awful.

Qatar's top World Cup organizing official now admits the World Cup worker death toll is "between 400 and 500", going against the organizing committee's previous claim that there were only 3 workplace and 37 non-workplace worker deaths. This is still a long way off from the journalists' and NGOs' estimates and has once again been used as evidence that the Qatari authorities are being incredibly opaque and reluctant to allow any investigation into the actual human cost of the World Cup. Announcing vague numbers in media interviews is not in any way the same as allowing open, transparent investigations to determine the cause of people's deaths, facilitate effective reform to protect those in similar positions in the future, and ensure workers' families receive compensation.

They just didn't know they had to count the migrant deaths when they released the earlier numbers. Didn't realize they were people.
