Flash Gordon Ramsay posted:First time I moved a snapper I was carrying near the back end and was shocked at how close it came to my hand. They can reach farther than you think, and that graphic (even though it’s at least partially a joke) is a good way to get bit. The tail on a snapping turtle also serves as a handle if you have to move one. I usually just get a big tree branch and scoot the turtle across the ground if it has to be moved. I had one bite a branch and refuse to let go, so I used the stick to carry it.

Tangentially related - you can't scruff a squirrel. If you have to handle a squirrel, like for example it got into your drop ceiling, then you scared it out and chased it around the house with your dog, handle it more like a snake - one hand around the belly between all the feet with sharp claws, the other hand with your finger around the throat/chin and a thumb on the back of the head. They are absolutely maneuverable enough to bite or claw you when held any other way. Won't give you rabies, might give you tetanus.

Common snappers can move real fast if they want to. They’re probably going to do this to run away from you, not charge you, but it can still come as a shock. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CH7OyM4tUg&t=57s

Anti tank mines, not likely to be triggered by a human. Still a big nope

The thing you've got to watch out for are the booby traps and secondary fuses that are set explicitly to try and kill deminers.

it's probably fine, antimateriel mines are not especially delicate and the detonation mechanisms degrade faster than the high explosive payload I say if you're at war have fun with it, smack a mine once in a while. you've earned it.

I remember reading about snapping turtles in a picture book when I was a little kid. I thought they were in some jungle in an exotic part of the world, not all over the US. I still don't understand why we have a bad reputation for scary animals in Australia, when the US has bears, snapping turtles, alligators and mountain lions. Brown snakes and funnel web spiders are considerably less scary in comparison.

some minor shipfuckling, water wasn't lowered enough looks like a perforation for folding the bridge

Not exactly minor, that bridge is vitally important for the region. None of the alternative routes have equivalent capacity. Bridge and canal are currently closed, and if that bridge cannot be safely reopened there's going to be some major disruption for years to come. (Unless you commute by bike, there's a small ferry for bikes and pedestrians)

Which bridge is it? That ferry seems to belong to a Finnish company and the crane to a Danish one, so I assume they have started building a direct connection across the Baltic Sea at last! This is another way to cross oceans... three stowaways took from Lagos to Canary islands, the trip lasted 10 days.

sigher posted:Not gonna lie I kinda want to do that for fun. On a smaller rubber mill like that... maybe. On a production 60" mill, it's a hard, dangerous job. The rollers are heated hot as gently caress, so everything is hot, the material is often sticky, and the machine is designed to pull material into the rollers... and those things will mill you just as easily as they do rubber.

Crane or excavator even seems mostly undamaged, though reports say some parts fell into water. for traffic its always a desaster if any bridge in germany gets damaged, there really is little redundancy with those

Aye, some huge weights fell into the canal, which is also not great because it's not exactly deep. The canal is almost more important than the bridge. With our luck they'll condemn the bridges and upon reopening the canal a ship rams the lock gates again. We are on our last pair afaik.
