Out of the two times I took out a daemonhost, that was the way we got one, and kept all four players alive doing it. Ogryn shield worth its weight in gold there.

For those who didn't get weekly mission credit from a mission, do you remember if you joined a mission in progress or not? I joined a minute in, got all 3 scripts, no progress towards any category at the end.

Edit: two missions in a row I join a game in progress, two missions I don't get any credit for weeklies.

I'd love to see more environmental variety in future maps, but I wouldn't bet money on it any time soon. I keep getting in-game dialog where one PC comments that they've heard there's a second city on the planet, before being abruptly cut off by the Sergeant Major telling them to stfu and drop the subject.

I'd think we'll see something develop there, so I'd expect more of the same type of industrial/cathedral/shantytown hive environments.

Edit: but I'm fine with that as long as there's variety in the objectives. Only so many times I can scan an area or restart a countdown with the world's lamest mini game before it starts to feel old. Combat feels great, though, and I finally found an autogun that owns hard enough to make me give up on my lasguns, bolter, and plasma gun.

based on how locations are listed and the fact the hub is a spaceship i think there is a good chance of other cities and even other planets in the future

stuff is listed like atoma prime > tertium > hab block dreyko (or w/e)

I had a match where it took so long to load in that I alt+f4'd and rejoined the game, where there was only 1 other player and 3 bots. Then two other people joined and we had a full 4 with just an extra body who was a bot. I dont even know how you program in letting more people than allowed join. It sucked cause the bot took up one of the teammate healthbars so I just had no clue if one of the human players was close to dying or needed ammo ever

Everyone around it will still get cursed slowly but a shield ogryn can sit there forever taking zero damage while the other team members kill it.

Concerning the dialogue/banter talk on the last page I've noticed a decent amount of paired dialogue for the female Agitator Zealot voice and the male psyker with the comical German accent, where I guess the longest one was where the Psyker was corrected the Zealot's "High Gothic" (which seems to be portrayed as a stereotypical "Shakespearean"/King James Bible impression, which seems appropriate) grammar. ¨

Some others as well, though again, having not played the Vermintides I don't have much to compare it to in terms of how much there is, and people probably aren't wrong in pointing out a comparative lack. It might just bemy own selective experience but some of the voices/personalities seem a lot more talkative than others and some seem to engage with certain others more as well.

I dig some of the ethical and/or theological debates between PCs, including whether or not abhumans have souls, with the squad's zealot claiming that they don't, the other zealot saying that they are granted souls by the Emperor's grace, and my veteran arguing that it doesn't really matter, and most of the abhumans he's met are better people than the humans. I'd wonder how much of that is absolutely generic class-based dialogue, versus whether there are personality types built by mixing and matching the multiple choice origin story at character creation - ie. my crime was sedition and my history was enlisted with a field promotion, and I've noticed that most of my character's dialogue is either professional military jargon or polite contempt for Imperial dogma.

My Agitator Zealot seems mostly consistent in her character in the dialogue I've heard, super self-righteous, talking aobut the highborn having a divine right to rule and arguing that abhumans can't have souls though through the grace of the Imperium they might be granted citizenship and generally toeing that line, but also with a general trend of not really having a deeper understanding of the dogma she's spouting, which again is in line with lore, "blessed is the mind too small for doubt" and all that.

e: the Loner Psyker seems outright hostile against the Imperium and openly criticizes it and Imperial dogma in dialgoue fairly consistently.

e2: Agitator Zealot (I assume both male and female, because I think they might have the same lines, even if the performance can be very different) also occasionally will sing, seen it twice, IIRC both times triggered by a comment from another Zealot personality.

They've said the background choices change the likelihoods of certain dialog, but the 3 different personalities are definitely their own separate characters that have different outlooks on everything, and theres even some variation between the genders too, like the female seer being a bit less self absorbed than the male one.

Do y'all just slap every host you run across?

Ive played a bunch of malice pubs over the weekend and the few idiot pubs that still attack hosts for no reason we just let die while we continue with the mission. Unless you attack the host it doesn't seem to actually care if someone else aggroes it, it'll just eat that pubbie and gently caress off.

Like, just run around. It takes less time, resources and risk.

Not sure if getting away far enough from a Daemonhost will cause it to dissipate after eating whoever woke it. Tried once using a scene change on Hub Drayko after a pubbie decided to go for the rescue of a respawned teammate that was also being guarded by a Daemonhost: we hosed off into the airlock while it ate the dude, but it just teleported into the next room to intercept us.

Do flamers also work against (nearby) elites and specialists? Would love to use one for once but well, you know these games, you really are kinda pressured into having something that can take out specials because you don't want to count on your allies to do that constantly lest they slip up.

Flamers will kill elites yeah, they do good damage and will even stun-lock or slow down many of them. What seems to be the deal with the flamer, at least to me, is that it's the type of weapon you have to have a good eye for when to use and when to save for later. If you use it like your main form of attack it's probably gonna be awkward and not feel very good to use or terribly impactful, the primary fire mode of it doesn't seem very useful to me apart from as a quick panic-button thing to set someone on fire for a bit of damage of over time and stagger, and the secondary (well really the main attack as I see it) fire, takes like a second to prepare, but when you pick the right target in the right location, it's a sight to behold.

e: I would say lone specials or generaly anyone not standing in a larger group in a clear lane isn't a good target for the flamer. Those guys you will deal with with a melee weapon. If you have the time to prepare the long burst you can still get one with the flamer of course, but it's a bit of a waste compared to using the flamer for what it really excels at which is just deleting and holding back huge groups of enemies. Use it like you're washing a car or the side of a house.

Yeah the witch stuff was so well made in L4D and the daemonhost seems directly inspired by it. They could definitely add more atmospheric stuff like music cues and such

There's a cool detail with the daemonhost that's alluded to in the badass CGI intro: remember when frost starts forming around the ship while they're doing a warp jump? Your HUD also starts frosting over when you get near a daemonhost.

That itself was a bug. Before that, toughness had damage break through even when full, albeit very little. That was a design choice. They responded to player complaints by making it so when you have full toughness, the first attack isn't supposed to break through your shield, but when implementing the change, they introduced a bug where having more than 100 toughness meant you got walloped *extra* hard. That has since been fixed (on Steam.)

If you try it in the meat grinder you can see the burn damage increases the longer you hold the flame on enemies, ramping up to well over a hundred damage a second, so it happily cooks everything except crushers who have a strong resistance. Damage continues to tick after you stop firing. You can flash fry a reaper without reloading.

Tends to stagger everything as well, ragers and maulers won’t reach you before they drop dead. And has a longer range than you’d expect so you can use it for mid range engagements.

Love that weapon.
