Cowcaster posted:really rolling the dice on a poster coming in here to say how deep and well written the backstory is The best part of the backstory is when the first game had its initial reveal trailer and the montage of masses of schoolgirls moaning and gyrating is concluded, it first cuts back to the middle-aged female cohost who seems to be witnessing all this for the first time herself and for just a half second, has this clear thousand-yard stare of dismay and regret on her face as she contemplates the decisions that have led her life to this moment. The second best part of the backstory is that when they updated the PC release for the launch of the $100 X-Ray Glasses DLC, they introduced a reliable, unavoidable crash point on one of the first levels, which never got fixed. The third best part is that this is the same studio that made the newer Blaster Master trilogy but if you've ever seen the plant waifu character that might not come as much of a surprise

Volte posted:What are you talking about The company has patched in some changes, after the original creators were kicked from the development team, that are unquestionably awful. It's the kind of things that you might not notice if you haven't played before so I'm just gonna put it into spoilers. Scab Leader, who is a very important character in the game, had all of his voice lines literally pitched down because they apparently didn't like the original creative decision behind giving him a fairly high pitched voice to contrast his character. They also pitched down Jean's voice acting. Just finished Telling Lies, and my main feeling after finishing is "wait, that's it?" I didn't remotely find every video, but I searched to see if I missed anything important and it seems like I pretty much had everything. I looked up all the endings and they're all 'I don't care at all about that awful guy and I'm thriving as a strong independent woman,' which is a nice idea but it's so over the top and clunky that it's embarrassing. I'm really surprised it got such a positive critical reception, because it just doesn't really feel like there's a whole lot to it, and I don't think it did anything especially interesting to innovate beyond what Her Story did. The one sided conversations thing is just obnoxious to the point where I ended up fast forwarding through a lot of the videos and just reading the subtitles as they flew by because watching minutes of dead air felt like such a waste of time, which is a shame because I think the acting was actually pretty decent. My impression is that the rewind feature was deliberately bad and you aren't really supposed to rewind to watch the whole video, but whether it was deliberate or not that aspect sucked too. Is Immortality significantly better/different, or is it just more of the same?

So I got I was a teenage Exocolonists. I love this game but I think I have to put it down. I've never had a game effect me like this. Theres so many gut punches and bittersweet moments and a whole cast that I want to just be happy. Dammit, why can't I just have my emo bestfriend/boyfriend be happy? Leibniz turns out to be the ultimate tsundere, Kanna gets a new outfit that makes the old one look downright practical, and in the "good" ending the protagonist ascends the physical plane to copulate with the fabric of reality itself. If I spent the time giving that the proper context it would only be marginally less insane. How we got here from chasing a pan-dimensional frog I have no idea. I will say the PC version gave me some nasty sound issues though. MonkeyforaHead fucked around with this message at 05:30 on Dec 12, 2022 |

For real though, it seems like everyone keeps trying to outdo the previous gens most popular 'misery simulators'. I'd blame Life is Strange but that was heavily inspired by The Walking Dead

It can get old, pretty quick. If every movie series ends like matrix 3, you don’t need to start a new series.

I personally don't like saccharine good endings at all. They ring hollow and sour the whole story for me generally because real life's a bitch and then you die. Not that I like misery porn either, if you're resorting to killing puppies in your story then it's probably because you're too incompetent of a writer to create pathos in any other way. I think my favorite stories tend to lean towards bittersweet endings generally. EDIT: Incidentally, ARMA is the best anti-war game ever made. It's the best at showing you how extremely un-fun and lame war is.

MGSV fuckin rules and part of the reason is that it can't decide if it hates war or loves war or hates war tech or loves war tech or hates soldiers or soldiers are noble and good and child soldiers are probably bad but this particular one is a cool badass

that's the kojima way. you consistently portray war and espionage as being cool as poo poo, but as long as you have a character say "war is child in a crib crying out for a mother who will never come" and then die, your anti-war themes are undeniable.
