One of the posters for a previous tour of his had a photoshop of Nick angrily giving the finger to a bunch of upset looking Black folks, #metoo types, etc. One of the people was a well known Black activist who had been fairly recently murdered. He said it was unintentional. It still looks like something made by the weird young Republican kid in the high school computer lab.

He's a vocal "Louis CK did nothing wrong" guy, too. Unsure where he stands on Cosby tbh

Him moving to Georgia to escape the Democrats and the two senate seats flipping blue immediately after was hilarious. He used to be a hell of a standup, but I don’t know if his set is the Sean Hannity Comedy Hour now or not.

Mike Nelson might have had as much of an influence on my sense of humor as Howard Stern or Odenkirk & Cross, and he's as square and conservative and Christian as the come. I'm no real fan of the Blue Collar Comedy guys, but they're actually comedians who write jokes and poo poo and keep their queer-hating troop worship to Twitter and Fox News appearances (the Tater Salad guy seems to focus the brunt of his attention on pussy and weed and liquor, so I exclude him). I think Nick is a sharp comic with a quick wit, and I wish he could focus on what makes him funny. It's like how Graham Linehan had to torpedo his career because he had to make sure every single human being on earth were made aware of his opinions on trans folks.

It ain't strictly a conservative thing, either. David Cross and Phil Hendrie stopped being funny for years after 9/11, and those guys were a huge part of my life, comedy-wise. There are plenty of people out there who actually care about entertaining an audience, so whatever. It just sucks to see talented people get sucked into the hellscape vortex of modern world politics.

Gilbert's complete lack of giveable fucks was the foundation of his genius. Contrast with the examples of politicized comedians above -- they care wayyyyyy more about fighting an ideological battle than they do about eliciting laughter. (See also: Chappelle, Dave)

No, Cross is still super left AFAIK. I say cursed because knowing what we know now, picture a comedian attempting to craft a funny set around the hilarious idea of how scary a Trump Presidency would be before he was even nominated. Then imagine listening to that set in your car, the only place you have a CD player, shortly after he took office.

I don’t remember any jokes and I only listened to it once, I just remember a feeling of dread and sadness trying to laugh at that poo poo.

He did the Chipmunk movies for the boatload of cash all that meant and bitched about how beneath him they were. They're lovely movies, but he knew exactly what he was getting into, so I always thought that made him look like a dork. The MiB 1 and 2 residuals probably aren't nothing, either. He's married to Amber Tamblyn, who's a working actress and writer. He's doing fine.

I cannot underestimate just how much Mr. Show influenced my sense of humor as an impressionable teenager, and he's a talented, funny guy, but he always struck me as a major league dickhead. As to the misogyny stuff, he was any edgy dude who liked making lovely jokes at peoples expense a lot and used a lot of, uhhhhh... unfortunate language, and he's publicly apologized for it. I can't throw too many stones in that regard, so I don't have much to add to that. He's probably a jerk, but who isn't? Nobody, that's who. He is definitely an angry guy.

Bob Odenkirk, however, seems like a lovely, earnest man.

Didn't David Cross white a huge post about Larry the Cable Guy? I mean, I'm not a fan of Larry either but the guy in real life seems decent. I'd put his movies up against the Chipmunks crap any day.

Eh I think David Cross fell into the same trap as any young, hungry comic: Ideals about "selling out" are all well and good but when Hollywood comes knocking with a huge paycheck for not-very-hard-at-all-work, pretty much everyone ditches their pride real quick. He was a total dick about the Larry the Cable Guy thing, don't know what he was trying to prove with that.

I think it may be that Larry the Cable Guy is sort of a gimmick comic. He's not that person, he's just playing a character. Some smug comedians hate gimmick comics, so I think that might be part of it. He probably has the same opinions of the Duck Dynasty cast.

Yeah that's what it is really. Comics like David think themselves as "true" comics and hate on guys like Carrot Top, Gallagher (RIP) or anyone that has to use a gimmick to get laughs.

David Cross is such an intense rear end in a top hat that when all the stuff about Jeffrey Tambor being horrible on the set of Arrested Development was coming out, the main defense was "well, everyone was being a dick, (insert one of a half-dozen stories about David Cross harassing PAs)".

Years and years ago I get call from my Mom saying my uncle had taken my grandmother to a doctors appointment but was having car trouble and asked if I could go pick them up. So I drive to the doctors listening to Stern on the way over. I get to the doctors office, help my grandma into the car and start it up. As soon as the sirius turned back on you just hear Gilbert yelling " I WANT TO gently caress BINDI IRWINS JAP TITS"

What's funny about David Cross is you'll see quite a few people leaving during his set because they didn't realize how leftist he was going to be. A boomer aged couple next to us at his Ann Arbor show got up and left as soon as he started going into his anti-Trump parts.

He got away with it because he didn't care. Sometimes not reacting is a great way to just make social media just ignore you and move to the next thing. If some company ever cancelled a gig, that made him happier than actually performing.
