I tried to find out what the gently caress Nostr is and now I am more confused than ever. First, I let it generate a key for me.  Now I have to find my own hosting for a profile photo?  The @ address doesn't mean anything because I can only search profiles by the randomly-generated public key, which is however many dozens of characters of gibberish. I tested it on my own public key and that was the only thing that worked to bring my name up. I guess you can only add people if you have their key, making everything completely hidden from only those in the know. The only use for this level of secrecy I can think of is trying to fix the data/site leaks that dark web users had when getting busted for drugs and CSAM. Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but this is a whole different level of anonymity and secrecy than previous dark web stuff?? What's the use for this website? Who does it appeal to outside people trying to share stuff in complete secrecy?  "And therefore has a chance of working" - I know they mean "succeeding," but looking over all their fake Discord, Whatsapp, RSS feed, etc., imitations, I think "working" might actually mean "won't crash as much as you'd think it would."

Quite a few US media sites just self blocked themselves in the EU when GDPR came in, rather than figuring out how to comply. Could easily see Twitter just doing the same.
