Well, yes, exactly, livestock aren't the priority in these situations. Profit on the other hand

Can't remember exactly, but repealing it was part of the 2019 platform. I think it was sometime post-coalition. I think when I was looking for work out of uni I got offered an apprenticeship and I think about half my days wages would have gone on bus fare.

Oh hey, so back at 2am the DWP decided to put the money in my account I should have been getting over the last year. It's a LOT more than I was expecting, so I've spent the last almost 3 hours outside of banking hours trying to put it into another account so that it doesn't gently caress me for tax purposes (I'm self employed). Merry Xmas! It's staying in savings until I can be sure they're not going to double gently caress me by asking for it back or saying they made a mistake or something.

Nice! Make sure the savings account actually pays interest and is not some awful "call it savings but only pay 0.1%" thing. You can get 2-3% at the moment I think.

the 4+ ones are "lock the money away"/"give notice to withdraw" accounts, which given the circumstances are not ideal. still, kinda surprised there's insta-access 3% ones out there inflation at 11%, interest at 3%. economy!!

I've actually got a 5% Barclays account with almost no strings (just one of those dumb "pay us £5 a month and we'll give you £5 back" + do a couple of direct debit things) which is handy, even if it doesn't match inflation. It's all lies anyway, they say inflation is 10-15% but my dandelion and burdock has increased from 50p to 80p. Also masks back on the menu at work, just as I've been completing multiple training sessions with 20 people present. let's hope if I catch covid again it's the asymptomatic kind

Cheers all. I think I'm going to put it in a medium-risk vanguard account, so if the DWP do try to chase me up or get it back, I can withdraw it with a reasonable notice, and otherwise it's sitting there making at / just above interest, plus compound interest. Kind of hate to be mini capitalist scum and profiting off the stock / bond / housing markets, but hey, we-should-improve-society-somewhat-dot-jpeg Marmaduke! posted:It's all lies anyway, they say inflation is 10-15% but my dandelion and burdock has increased from 50p to 80p. I think the interview in question the guy was saying he was talking to his superiors and economics professors about how bad the economy is because of how the people he grew up with were suffering, and these economists were saying "what do you mean, the economy is doing great" while wearing robes and sat in a wood panelled room in Oxford.
