the bacteria use the energy from the hydrothermal vent the same way plants use the sun, they just need a place to live where they don’t get blown out into the ocean crabs that like to stick their arms out into the jet of warm water then groom themselves like a cat over time, hairy crabs get a bunch of bacteria stuck in there they can lick off hairier = more to lick = food crabs and bacteria, breaking the 4th wall like a flint stones dinosaur that powers a vacuum cleaner, shrugging “It’s a living!” studio audience laughter
