We're midway through a brief fill-in arc by Charlie Jane Anders about the new trans characters introduced in last year's Pride special. It's charming and has a nice zippy pace.

I didn't realize this was a fill in, any info on what happens after this arc?

Also, quote is not edit... whoops

I keep thinking about that latest issue of Immortal and how good it is. So much is packed into that one issue.

I can't wait for the next one. I really want to see Kate beat the snot out of Sinister and Destiny be smug about winning.

I bet Destiny will drop dead. Maybe Sinister will bring out the old power he got to turn off other mutant powers.

Found this really funny in the animated series. Of all the mutants to obsess over, why did you choose the one with eye beams that can melt you, Sinister?

I'm sure one day Marvel will print my document I pitched my idea for Sinister in. It's a classic 5,000-word piece about, "This is why I didn't think he works. This is what I want to do with him." And as is pretty usual for most of my documents like that, it's probably about five times as much stuff as you need. And in reality, I did all that stuff in my run, and then the stuff that actually lasts from my re-imagining is the good stuff.

You lean into the drag queen aspect of Sinister, the larger-than-life aspect. I was writing him as Oscar Wilde. Not just Oscar Wilde, but Oscar Wilde as British imperialist. People have generally written him as more modern than that, but that was the vibe. I wrote him as very 19th century and with other people, that changed. The other thing when I reinvented him was like, "Oh no, he's rewriting his personality all the time." I was always aware that people who wanted to go back could because he could just load up an old personality and any change is him saying, "I'm just being this person today."

Yeah Hank secretly killed him, and then with Hope's help sabotaged his resurrection so his mind would not be complete. Honestly not feeling too bad about Hope's death given that she willing helped Hank with this. Though she does not appear to know he is using him as an assassin.

At this point I’d say he’s worse. Sinister doesn’t pretend to be anything other than what he is. Hank is still pretending to be a friend, and that is more evil imho.

I don't get when this is supposed to be taking place when X-Force just had them find out about Beast running a prison where he did unethical experiments on prisoners and killed a bunch. They brought him in so you'd think that would be the end of it.

This will probably end with Wolverine killing him and then they resurrect him to an earlier version or something.

The X-Men annual was pretty good. Hopefully Firestar does stick on the X-Men.

LICK MY ASS
I would not be at all surprised if they killed Beast off and resurrected him as a teenager without his memories.

Though my personal philosophy is if something happens in a trash book written by a lovely writer, it doesn't count unless it becomes an important plot point in a book I'm actually reading. So for me, Beast sucks, but he's not really at "horrible war criminal" levels because I ain't reading this poo poo. I also didn't read the book where he, what, nuked a secret underground alien society and it was never brought up again? Something like that, I've only seen one panel and I only half-remember it. I don't know if that too was a trash book with a lovely writer, but I didn't read it, so for me it doesn't count.

As interested as I am in seeing Beast's eventual comeuppance, I think I'm going to have to just memory-hole this whole plot for the time being. It's falling into the type of story that fully makes no sense with the other books in the line and just makes less sense the more you think about it. The data page with Hope was so bad...like, I almost would have preferred if Percy just didn't bother to explain this resurrection process at all instead of making us think about how fundamentally idiotic everyone would have to be for this to be going on.

The Annual was definitely super fun, though was it just me or was it a little strange that the conversation between Firestar and Jumbo ended with them drawing attention to her iconic(ish) eyewear and then we just...didn't see her eyewear at all in the whole issue? Did I miss something?

Also I dunno how I feel about Firestar having to "concile" with the Hellions at the end, like, ah yes this crazy lady might have punched me across the room but didn't she have some points? Girl what! She punched you across the room! At least light her hair on fire!

So I just opened up that volume of Secret Avengers to look for that, and FWIW, there's a later issue where Hank tells Cap that he's "killed for him before and he won't do it again." So at least Ellis gave Hank some pathos regarding the genocide that he committed.

Honestly, it's Steve that looks like loving rear end in that (very, very good looking) book.

When I was 17, my father was so stupid, I didn't want to be seen with him in public. When I was 24, I was amazed at how much the old man had learned in just 7 years.
Seems like where this is all going is they toss Beast in the hole and eventually whenever some writer decides it's time for Krakoa to end whatever evil mutant they have become its dictator pulls Beast out to help him take over. Then Beast's redemption is helping to stop that dude but he dies but darn it looks like resurrection is over somehow and can't be done again, he's dead for good (5 years) so everyone heads back to New York.

I hope this doesn't happen.
