Some of their exclusive snacks made Thai 7-11s dangerous to me when my blood sugar was dipping on my way home. "I'll just grab a crepe cake to eat while my dinner is cooking" would always turn into "and maybe a coconut water, coconut pudding, blueberry cheesecake cup, crab roll..." If you want beer, soju, lovely whiskey, or cheap wine it's fine assuming you're in the correct hours, but yeah it isn't any good outside of that for booze.

We haven't tested him to see if he's negative yet, but my wife is still positive. My father-in-law, brother-in-law, and sister-in-law are negative, but my niece is still positive. Tomorrow is day 5 for my wife, so she'll test again tomorrow. I popped into the local clinic and got the bivalent vaccine so we'll see what happens with me. I saw another baby in a high chair on a scooter yesterday while wandering around.

Kids are almost immune to covid, the educational disruption and lack of socialisation from being locked down to prevent them spreading is to grandma is vastly more harmful than actually getting covid. If grandma does get covid however...

Amazingly you can have kids and teachers get vaccinated and wear masks and minimize both sets of risks. I have literally never seen my kid as sick as he was when he came down with it and it scared the loving hell out of me. I don't really care that he bounced back quickly: it was really obviously not good. Lord knows what the long term damage to his little body will be. My sister, who is antivaxx and antimask, has had it three times. Same as her kids. That cannot be loving good.

Well yea, ideally no one gets it,but the person in your family almost certain to bounce back with minimal damage is him, the risk is more you not being able to look after him rather than direct risk to him.

Which is literally the situation we were facing as my wife came down hard, my in-laws were all sick, and there was a high chance of me getting it a second time too. We got lucky in that by the time he came down with it, my wife was recovered enough to lay next to him in bed while they quarantined together.

In lighter news, it's that time of the year again. Congratulations to the Corpus Museum in Ma'anshan, Anhui for winning archcy.com's annual Ugliest Building Contest! 🎉 From the comments: "What is this thing? It’s scary to look at during the day, beyond normal people’s understanding of ugliness. I feel that the designer is blindly trying to attract attention and deliberately disgust people!" "I thought it was the toilet research center." Notable runner ups: Guangzhou Aviation Tire Science Center Commentators likened it to a squat toilet or two Roombas crashing into each other. Shanghai Guangfulin Archaeological Site Exhibition Hall The idea was an archaeological motif of clay pots half buried in the ground. Unfortunately from afar it gives off the appearance of a "cow dung pile" as one commentator put it. Shanghai Tian'an Thousand Trees Shopping Center An interesting design marred by its strong resemblance to a cemetery: As one comment succinctly states, "A good place to go during Qingming Festival." Here's the list of all the other fine contestants. Good luck to all for 2023!

Recently, Shanghai just announced that you no longer need any kind of test to get back to work, which I'm sure will go very well. Personally, I think a ton of people are gonna be very surprised when another wave hits after CNY

Another fun anecdote: My wife's cousin and her family, including her husband and seven-year-old, got really sick with covid a month ago. Their three-year-old was completely fine, so they sent him to stay with grandma and grandpa (my wife's aunt and uncle) because no one at home was well enough to care for him. Then grandma and grandpa got deathly ill because oops the three-year-old was infected (they later did an ATK on him to confirm) and just asymptomatic. Fortunately everyone recovered, but it was a bad time for all involved. Taiwan is currently running on the 5 day policy and my mother-in-law is supposed to reopen her grocery store which primarily serves the local population of old people in the neighborhood who ride their rascals over to buy cigarettes and kaoliang (glorious Taiwanese baijiu). She's still testing positive.

That China would have to mobilize from neighbouring province was a given

A lot of people seem to be getting lucky with it but I guess I'm not one of them, I am the sickest I've been in 15 years. Fevers around 39 degrees. Sharp stabbing pain in my throat but I have to cough which just makes everything worse. Everything aches. But the worst is I have the single worst chills I've had ever. I'm freezing the whole time. But I keep pouring out sweat so I have to constantly rotate blankets. I seem to be dehydrated even though I'm drinking water and I genuinely think I'm just sweating out all my fluids. And I think this is day 4 or something? Things are kinda a blur cuz it's impossible to sleep like this. But it just keeps getting worse every day. I am vaccinated so holy gently caress I can't imagine not being vaccinated.
