Not really heard of it happening with movies from reputable studios though. They sorted out all the music rights back when DVDs got big.

Maybe this one they realized they could penny pinch and remove a song they had already licensed to save money?

Yeah it's weird. It might be specifically an issue with the Psychedelic Furs because the main theme song was a different version too

Interesting, I got one that said they screwed up the advance notifications and they were extending my year until Feb 2. But didn’t actually charge me.

All right. It's Saturday night; I have no date, a two-liter bottle of Shasta and my all-Rush mix-tape... Let's rock.

Watched the bradley cooper chef movie. It was decent. Medium stakes drama with a feel good finish. There was a 3 minute burger king ad about 15 minutes in that was weird af tho lol

Butt first, let's
check the feeds.

It all seems less apocalyptic than people feared. Like those shows will land on some service for a new licensing deal. It certainly does a number on the idea of HBO Max as a hub for all the available content. Obviously its never been ALL the content but if you can't even turn to the service for one of HBO's most high profile shows of the last 10-20 years its a hit to the brand. But if Westworld ends up somewhere else then its more or less a lateral move I guess. Assuming your used to app hoping.

Dream On is a licensing nightmare because of all the film and TV clips. Tales from the Crypt has some other copyright weirdness.

(Honestly the first danger sign was that when ATT took over Time Warner, HBOGo took down all their soft porn programming because it’s embarrassing and “people can just go online for porn anyway”. Like it was mostly bad but Real Sex did some unique work in between the “here’s an excuse to show boobs” segments.)

Here's an article about where the shows taken off HBO Max are going

Spoiler: they're going to a free with ads streaming service. Everything is going to a free with ads service. Free with ads is the future and it sucks.

Except for Tubi, where ad blockers prevent the ads but not the movies from playing, so it's just free movies.

Finally got around to watching Station Eleven and imo it would’ve been a lot better if it was just about Jeevan and Young Kirsten the whole time. All the other people in the show just seem kind of aggravating

That’s ok though I’ll get my fill when The Last of Us comes out

There is no way Last of Us is going to be as good as Station Eleven.

Station Eleven is a show that has one part I really really like and several other parts that I really really don't. The horrible 19 year old sucks and rewriting what's his face to be sympathetic and letting him keep his kidnapped child army is extremely weird!

The Jeevan stuff is all very wonderful though and I cried at that one scene towards the end.

The funny part about Station Eleven is that the Jeevan and Kristen part that really delivers the emotional payoffs in the show isn't even really in the book.

Yo I spent like half the series wondering why Kirsten was just happily chilling with him after his child soldiers suicide bombed Gil. There was a line he said about how he lost control of his cult while he was recovering but come the gently caress on.

It’s also weird because when Tyler is introduced he lies about who he is and why he’s there and then threatens Kirsten and her friends, but then later in the series he’s just trying to save kids? It’s like the writers changed their minds about him halfway through but they had already filmed the first few episodes.

I liked Station Eleven overall but I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with that opinion about Tyler's storyline. I posted something like that in the thread while it was airing and the responses were essentially "no, it's good." I thought it was just plain bad writing that doesn't hold up when you think about it. It seems like they had a particular ending in mind, but the way they got there just didn't add up to it. I really liked the annoying 19 year old though. Her character was perfectly believable.

In the book Tyler is just a straightforward violent Christian cultist so it's possible for the show they wanted to give his character more depth and just didn't pull it off. Personally I thought the whole show was incredible, especially considering how mid the book is.

Also just finished white lotus season 2, it was great. I'm happy for Mike White.

I was thinking about reading the book, but it seems like it’s one of the few cases where pretty much everyone agrees that the adaptation is just better.

I mean that line is crucial, the undersea is a massive uncontrollable threat with or without Tyler and killing him will only make things worse. That fact underscores all of Kirsten’s actions from there on out.

I guess they probably should’ve emphasized it more but I remember thinking that Kirsten just had no other choice. She’s not going to go Rambo on a bunch of child terrorists.

The best parts of the show (Kirsten's relationships with Jeevan and Tyler, Tyler's relationship with his mom, most of the airport scenes in general, etc) aren't in the book. The book feels more like a loose collection of unconnected post-apoc stories.

I was talking poo poo on the new Cyberpunk 2077 anime a few months back ITT. Well I went back to it, swapped voices from english to japanese (which I should have done from the start) and now I kinda love it. Everyone has probably seen it or skipped it by now, but I figured I should probably atone.

The English voices feel much more natural in the context of the setting, though.
