I prefer to think that her goth phase was not having the intended effect and everyone was going "omg big titty goth gf" and "dommy mommy step on me" so she recalibrated and decided the best way to creep them out was by cosplaying the mom from Leave it to Beaver

It's an alright gag. The "we all have to get over ourselves sometime" is a bit weird if only because it implies she was being a bit over-the-top or extra when really she's just jumping to another extreme. It'd be funnier if she showed up more often and constantly cycled between different bold aesthetics.

Don't y'all remember being teenagers? Any time you moved on from one phase/style/hobby to another, as a teenager, whatever you just dropped became the most cringe thing in the world. She's acting exactly how a real teenager would after no longer being a _______. The blank just happens to be goth in this case. Although back when most of us were kids, it was just called lame, but that's cringe now.

I'd be fine with it except I'm kind of sick of how often in media the whole "goth teen becomes 'normal' when they grow up" is played up. I think it's potentially a fun joke idea to have Jenny completely change her entire deal every time she shows up, but unless the comic goes until 2038 I don't see that happening. This is only like the... Fourth time Jack has shown up or something, right?

I spent my teens reading MSPA in the library and was also always lame so personally I hadn't had this experience, but I did have a friend who was a cyber-goth who wore dreads and a gas mask to school and hula-hooped, and then she one day simply was not into any of that anymore. Now she is again! But for a while there it was as if she'd never gummed a pacifier to avoid biting her tongue at a rave in her life. The difference though is that between these two phases, she was the exact same person underneath. There's been some strange overtones lately regarding the kids growing up now that they're in the middle of secondary school age. They're all demonstrating independence as kids their age do... except it's by submitting to the wishes of their elders and radically changing their personalities, things teens don't really do. Since I've been having more fun going with silly headcanon rather than trying to understand authorial intent, in my head Jenny didn't do any scrying, she just made a mess as a joke between her and Jack at Antimony's expense. Ohhh, ethereal spirit-medium forest ambassador girl wants me to do the work for her huh, yeah i'll use my witch powers to divine his location right away, with some condiments. aw shucks, no dice. if only i had some mayo, my scrying spell wasn't gross enough to attune to loup.

Yeah, I can understand the court writing off the destruction since they're packing up and leaving anyway, but Loup has proven that he's powerful and extremely unpredictable; the fact that nobody knows where is or what he's planning* should warrant an emergency response from pretty much everyone. *that what he seems to be planning is being a teen romcom protagonist isn't important, the characters don't know that and they've seen what he's capable of

It feels kinda rudder-less to be honest. Like the story doesn't know where it wants to go or what kind of story it wants to tell anymore. So it follows these weird piecemeal settings and plots as it moves toward some nebulous future conflict.

That sure was another page of people talking giving us info we basically already knew. Edit: I get that even starting a seeking spell makes Zimmy irritated, but it'd be nice for our characters to do something during these info dumps. Talking to Kat, they were standing around in an empty brown room. I find the dialogue here so stilted and weird. All these words about how Zimmy doesn't want to be found and they will only do it if it is really necessary, as though there is supposed to be tension around convincing these two to help, then its dismissed in two sentences on the same page. I think presenting the idea that Zimmy doesn't like being tracked is worthwhile, its just the way the conversation is framed and presented that makes it seem odd.

A while ago someone pointed out that a lot of the current arc of the comic is raising obstacles or ideas only to immediately dismiss them, as if the author were concerned he’d be criticized for not touching on those ideas in detail before moving forward. It feels mostly propelled by an obligation to conclude these lines of thought rather than elaborate or develop what’s actually happening.

It's weird that there's like, a diner in the court after everything that's happened? I guess people need stability and comfort food in trying times, but I'm kind of under the impression that the only people left were like, the ones who don't really have much other choice or are planning on leaving via the sea. Mostly I'm just surprised how little world building has been happening. Even a single establishing panel for the restaurant could have done a lot of work to show the types of people who are still here, the state of the court for the avg resident, etc. Hell, it feels weird that they're like "let's go somewhere more private" when 1) we never saw another person before they said that, and 2) why did they go to a diner in the first place?? It feels to have them go there only to immediately leave. I guess because she's rockabilly thus she needs to go a diner?

Nah it's all the romances not just that one. Think about it. We had all those infodumps showcasing Shell and Aata's relationship in the background. Then Loup and Lana, now even in this part we see Jenny and Jack together. Though with the latter, less time is spent on their relationship and more on Jenny overcoming being a goth or whatever but still. Now we are probably going to get some Zimmy and Gamma time. Everyone is a couple and the comic has to stop every time we get to one to give us some details or background on what they are doing before it moves on with the main plot.
