Today I used OCTAL, and the lack of any of its letters' being used gave me an opportunity to put down a word that somewhat complements OCTAL, which today was NERDS. If I get the A or O from OCTAL, I might consider putting down SNARE or SNORE as a second word.

I don’t like guessing vowel heavy words like ADIEU or AUDIO because they tend to get exactly one yellow. Not sure this is completely valid logic.

My wife is better at this and usually beats me - my tactic is spamming different letters, whereas she's more like playing chess. Having a good starter word gets you going. I tend to think locking in green vowels early on is how you get stuck in structure traps and that going consonant heavy is better. Getting key consonants early is how you get 2s and 3s, which should be your primary goal.
