I’m perplexed as to why they set those blocks on end up top, I’d expect they’d tumble over at even the slightest wave action. Since a reef is likely fairly shallow, I can’t see how they’d escape it. Maybe they’re fixed to the blocks below. Definitely needs a lobster barbershop number with them popping out of successive compartments “Hello, hello, hello!”

I mean, not really just at the surface: https://news.mongabay.com/2014/12/reefs-reduce-97-percent-of-wave-energy-could-be-better-than-artificial-barriers/ Flow, etc. is going to be necessary to move microscopic whatsits by for stationary critters to filter, and shallower water will nearly always be subject to wave action, unless we’re just talking past each other here. The small bit of diving/snorkeling I’ve done, I feel like they would’ve been knocked over (I’ve seen them tumble on flat ground for less, but not usually concrete on concrete, I guess). This might be just deep enough, and my brain is definitely not awake either. High surface area for relatively low contact surface area seems ripe for tumbly wave action. And now I’ve bored everyone to death, I’ll be quiet and await my crab Lego set due from China any day now.
