Defiant announced a book called "Plasm" which Marvel claimed was a violation of their trademark for the Marvel UK character "Plasmer" so Defiant renamed it to "Warriors of Plasm". Marvel continued the suit, which Defiant ultimately won, but the court costs put them out of business anyway, so mission accomplished.

So that was too much but adding a t and making it 'Overtkill' was enough? Wild.

The main difference is that Todd - to my knowledge (and a quick Google doesn't find anything) - never made an "Overtkill" comic.

What's on your mind, Axa?

Dawgstar posted:

Pretty much. Also soon or perhaps already Shooter would quickly establish Defiant with the Valiant folks who didn't like how things were going which would quickly under and then Broadway Comics which had even less of an impact.

I still remember watching a QVC thing with Shooter shilling Defiant comic cards and just looking like he didn't care at all. The man has talents but PR and sales I don't think are among them.

Yeah, Defiant's been popping up here and there in the news sections. Broadway comics hasn't shown up yet, I don't think though. Sounds like that should be an interesting read when it happens.

Also the Deathmate crossover didn't help Valiant either, as I remember the story going.

Yeah, that's certainly true. Not only was it horrendously over-ordered I imagine Image's side was super late. There's got to be a fascinating deep dive article on Valiant's rise and fall out there somewhere, of which indeed Wizard played on both.

I wish there were scans available of the more obscure comics and toy magazines, I’m surprised more stuff like this isn’t up on archive.org or something.

No, work and some personal issues did. I haven't been able to post much at all lately anywhere on the forum. But, that should be changing soon. I hope to have the next issue up this week and start again from there.

loving lol at Tekno-Comix, the comic where we get a big name person to give us a character name, let us put their big name on the cover and then have said big name person have nothing to do with what was inside the comic. There was a lot of chutzpah with those comics.
Also I am just reading the letter comments and the one sent by the angry mom about the soft core porniness of Vampirella and the mom mentions that she let her 6 year old read it because it is a price guide and I wonder what 6 year old would be interested in price guides?

Got no doubt he did, she was a hot property for a time. Mini comic, toys etc. I had one of the pantyless Angela's that infamously came out. Talk about a Christmas surprise. Got her along with a bunch of Spawns. Even a vehicle.

l believe Todd soured on Gaiman due to Neil calling him out over coverage of the toys being put together in an Asian factory as shown in the Angela comic. In the final Angela mini issue they had a letter column and a reader noted the factory and workers shown in a previous issue and thought it looked sketchy. Gaiman responded akin to "Well Todd, are you using sweatshops?"

Doubt that went over well with Toddy boy.

If I remember right they had Mark Waid on the DC side and somebody who I'm forgetting for the Marvel side talking up who would win. The Marvel guy had kind of a rough time because the DC power scale is so much greater. Sadly DC ran up against the greatest power of all - Marvel having a very popular X-Men cartoon which meant even randos were voting for Wolverine and Storm.
