Much like I have never had a homemade* bbq sauce better than Stubb’s original, I have never had a homemade cranberry sauce better than Ocean Spray Jellied. * Any bbq sauce honestly. I spent years at home trying recipes, and then 18 months at a restaurant trying, and never succeeded. Stubb’s is the platonic ideal of BBQ sauce** ** Texas style. Obviously not taking into consideration completely different styles of sauce. Doom Rooster fucked around with this message at 23:59 on Nov 30, 2022 |

Human Tornada posted:"I actually think the canned stuff tastes better haha" is to Thanksgiving what "Die Hard is my favorite Christmas movie" is to Christmas. Fair enough. I've had a few different homemade ones and they've just never appealed to me. It feels like something that should be kinda cheap, if that makes any sense. And since you're probably never having more than a single slice or just a little dollop I've never felt like putting the effort in is worth it.

The cranberry sauce was left out of the bag of thanksgiving leftovers I brought home, and Kenji posted a squash soup recipe with cranberry sauce on youtube. I took it as a sign that I needed to make some. It came out pretty good!

227-250g cured pork loin in peameal, cubed ("Canadian bacon") 180ml calrose rice, washed three times 2 tbsp brown lentils, soaked a few hours 1 tbsp huy fong chili garlic sauce 1 tbsp chicken stock powder 1 tbsp cheap soy sauce (omit if you want less salt) 1.5 tbsp butter Quick Cook setting on the rice cooker If I were to add anything, it'd be the leaves from baby bokchoy, chiffonaded and just let the heat wilt them, or a raw egg, stirred in. Chili! With a dollop of sour cream and some queso fresco. Changed a few things from the usual recipe. Chili powder was a bit muted, and I used black beans instead of the usual kidney, so it looks quite dark. No masa this time around, just to see if I like it better this way, but I think I'm going to go back and throw some in as soon as I'm done with this bowl.
