I hope Biff Tundrish survived into the Indomitus Crusade and crossed the Rubicon Primaris. Cus there needs to be a Biff model, stat.

The Mechanicus 40k game was available for free on Epic so I grabbed it. It's very chatty but the writing's good and sufficiently grimdark even if it's not quite pressing my Xcom button.

It felt a bit samey but I didn't really give it a proper try. Might just play through it on the easiest difficulty so I can watch necrons go clonk.

I really like Mechanicus, especially when you have a few highly upgraded tech priests. You can do some really nutty poo poo later in the game.

Mechanicus is very easy to break over your knee and the difficulty curve never swings back up, but drat is the atmosphere awesome. A solid 8/10 for me, not something I'm gonna replay but I enjoyed my time with it.

Apart from the White Scars, are there any other specifically 'ethnic' chapters?

I know that some people consider Salamanders the black chapter, but that either seems to stem from a misunderstanding or a desire to make them like that because it fits their own interpretation of the canon, which in turn can either be good for them if it's a personal thing or really weird if it's not.

I mean they straight up were for a while? This lore was invented by white british nerds in the 80s, which meant that when they imagined a group of superhumans with genetic augmentations including the ability to shift melanin through their skin to survive a staggering array of atmospheres the skin shades they imagined ranged from 'transparently pale' to 'something that might resemble a light tan if you squinted hard' and then there were the black ones! edit: sitting in a pub in shrup-on-shire-brook and trying to imagine how fierce the sun could get on a world with no atmosphere. Maybe you could see the sun!

In several of the audio books the voice actors are also accented that way. The Salamanders in Helsreach come to mind.

Well that's the angels done. Nice thing about audiobooks is that they can be read in a day like you're the Tai Lopez of Warhammer, but less of a loving loser.Improbable Lobster posted:It's pretty unfortunate, as is the general stereotypical asian acccents used for the white scars in general. I know I've had the impression that they've been thought of as the black guys for two decades, so it obviously comes from somewhere.

We could have had a 40K movie by Stanley loving Kubrik.

So after looking for those SPACE MARINE quotes I decided to do a re-read. I stand by my statement that it still owns, but I think it's biggest weakness is that there's no actual plot. It's a series of things happening one after the other, and then the book ends. All of those things are either awesome, weird, or involve farts in some way, and it is never ever dull.

Does anyone have some suggestions for short, less than 10h audiobooks? Audiobooks exclusively, I listen to books while I paint. I'm listening to this now: I've listened to a few things, I tend to like audo dramas but audiobooks are fine, if the narrator has a good enough vocal range.

The Aurelian audiobook is about Lorgars first pilgrimage in the warp, you might like it. There's also The Butchers Nails which is an Angron/Lorgar journey that's pretty fun. For super short audio dramas I also recommend Warmaster & Stone and Iron.

All of the Eisenhorn books are under 10 hours and are must read if you haven't touched them yet. For a change of style from the usual 40k there's Ciaphis Cain books, For The Emperor is under 9.

With all this talk of bad horus heresy books, I found a recommended reading order for the series that cuts out like 25 books. I was wondering if this was missing anything good. I'm going to tackle these in audiobook form once I finish the guy Haley blood angels trilogy. https://www.reddit.com/r/40kLore/comments/jjr9m5/cd8ds_personal_guide_to_reading_the_horus_heresy/

Has anyone read the Red Gobbo books (Da Gobbo’s Revenge and Da Gobbo’s Demise)? Can anyone spoil me their plot?
|
# ? Jan 6, 2023 19:11 |

There isn't really much to spoil, there is no continuity between them. The Red Gobbo isn't one gobbo, it's a title/persona passed from gobbo to gobbo in an attempt to unify them to break free of ork suppression if they could only work together They're fun little and fast reads, try to track them down.
