I had more than 6gb, which was like 20% cause it's only the 32gb version. After a few tries I eventually just got it totally reset with no backup and it is still jacked up, it probably needs a new hard drive idk.

I realized throughout the day how crazy I go when I have the time and energy to draw and can't use procreate or clip studio so I already ordered a replacement from Swappa cause they by far had the best prices (Swappa rules I got a MacBook air a year ago for half used price cause it had a tiny scratch on the screen. There were a ton of recent comments on the listing asking more specifics about the scratch so I just reached past and yoinked it no questions as quick as I could).

Back to the drawing app for kids I mentioned before, the Crayola game on Apple Arcade is everything I‘be been looking for. Annoying that it’s behind the subscription but it’s such a great drawing and coloring app for kids. Procreate and the like are too confusing except for just drawing on blank canvas but even then the options surrounding the screen get in the way. I tried some coloring book apps but they were more for adults and too complicated to use or the coloring areas were too small and the kids got frustrated. The Crayola game has lots of simple coloring pages with lots of space to work with and easy to understand drawing tools and other activities!

Sounds pretty well messed up. I think you’d need to bring it to an Apple Store to find out what’s going on. Please don’t try to sell it without being clear the thing is messed up or fixing it.

FWIW a goon’s selling an M1 iPad Pro in SA-Mart for a halfway decent price.

Oh yeah I was gonna just trade it in to either the apple store or best buy (both offered me $100 which would at least cover most of the cost of a new Pencil 2), I wasn't gonna try and con someone into buying it. I'm sure the cost of fixing it would be not worth it unless someone had all the tools/know how already.

Ok! You're a good goon I know. Anyway, you're looking at a new logic board more than likely, so yeah, expensive and annoying even if you have the wherewithal to do it yourself.

I was gonna mention the Pencil 2 aspect, but you've got that covered. The only thing I can think of now is that the iPad Air is also supposed to be pretty good if you want to get into the new era of the iPad. If you don't, cause you're a crank like me, there's still plenty of 9th Generation iPads to choose from.

My mom still uses her iPad 7 a ton. I asked her recently if it was still working well for her cause I was thinking about getting her a new one for xmas and she said it was still good and not to bother. She’d definitely complain if it was slow enough to affect her heavy use of it.

iPads 7,8,9 still seem to be fairing well. I’d probably lean more towards a 9th gen for longevity’s sake but ymmv

I’d stay away from the 5,6 personally.

I recently sold my iPad 6 to a colleague since it swapped harder than a vista ready pc running on a 5400rpm drive. I would suggest trying to go for an 8th or newer. My base spec 9th gen is pretty much another planet compared to it.

Going to my nearest apple store meant trecking out to the loving Mall of America so I traded in sad iPad and used the proceeds to get a giant cheesy pretzel. I got a good deal on a 2020 model pro mid delivery right now, I looked at the non pro iPads since I know the internals of the non pro iPads got better but since drawing on it is such a big priority I need that 12.9 inch

I wouldn't replace an Air2 with a 5, 6, 7, unless you're desperate for IOS16 and that's the primary reason for the upgrade.
I would go for a 8, 9, 10 at least.
In my city, people are trying to ask for way too much money for their second-hand iPads 8 & 9. After trolling buy and sell pages for a while, I eventually found reasonable deals on iPads Pro 10.5".
(I even managed to sell an Air2 Wifi+Cell 128GB for around the same price as a iPad Pro Wifi 64GB. The Air2 had an Otterbox case and charger and cable, though.)

edit:
Air2 is A8X w/ 2GB RAM, Pro 9.7" is A9X w/ 2GB RAM, Pro 10.5" is A10X w/ 4GB RAM, Pro 11" 2018 is A12X w/ 4GB RAM and introduces USB-C.
iPad 5 is A9 w/ 2GB RAM, 6 is A10 w/ 2GB RAM, 7 is A10 w/ 3GB RAM, 8 is A12 w/ 3GB RAM, 9 is A13 w/ 3GB RAM, 10 is A14 w/ 4GB RAM and introduces USB-C.
Air3 is A12 w/3GB, Air4 is A14 w/ 4GB RAM and introduces USB-C.

Is my Apple Pencil significantly draining my iPad battery by virtue of it always been attached to the side, or is the drain negligible?

Once it’s charged it doesn’t do anything other than check in every once in a while to ensure it’s still charged

Unless your battery is toast, it shouldn’t be materially affecting it.

Does anyone have a good iPad case that more solidly homes the pencil 2 in while charging? I've got one of these kinds and while it has a little indent for the pencil it inevitably gets knocked out of there when my kid carries it around. I'd like something that had like a strap to snap around it or a full hole to slide it in.

Pencil2 is held in its charging arrangement. Protection seems decent plus it has magnet cover and tri-fold stand.

The iPad Air has a 28.6 Wh battery (the 11" Pro's is very slightly larger, and the 12.9" Pro's is about 50% larger). The Pencil 2's is 0.329 Wh. Your Pencil could completely discharge and be recharged in a day and you'd see just over a 1% difference in battery life.

So no, it's not significantly draining it.

I just gis *art genre I'm looking for*, *screen ratio* (4:3 in this case), high resolution/*specific resolution*, and go from there. I haven't used the advanced search in years, so i forget it still has an option for "large images"

Here's a pic i took last winter that's been my lock screen for the last eight months:

Just let it shine through
I'm gonna have to update from my iPad 6 this year, and I know I've posted in this thread before about how there was so little difference between the Air and the iPad 10th Gen that I might as well just get the 10th since all I do with my iPad currently is content consumption, Discord and internet browsing, but now that I'm actually looking to buy sooner rather than later, is there an appreciable difference for my use case between the 9th and the 10th Generations?

My 6 uses the A10 Fusion and I've been fine on that for going on five years now, and the 9th uses the A13 versus the A14 in the 10th gen, and I'm just not sure there's any real difference when it comes to content consumption (I do zero creation poo poo). The display on the 10th says Liquid Retina, but translating that from Apple-Speak, it still seems to be an LCD like the 9th Gen's Retina display. The batteries in each seem to be rated for the same amount of time.

Basically, the only difference for me appears to be the chassis and the price, unless I'm missing something here. I guess being stuck on Lightning for the next 4-5 years might suck, and having the bigger bezels makes it look a little older, but I can get a 256gb 9 for about the same as a 64gb 10, which might be nice as iPad OS goes on.

Any iPad 9 buyers have remorse over not getting a nicer version?

`Honestly the new one seems like kind of a mess, and as far as I can tell only exists so there's the apple pricing ladder to push people up to getting an Air. There's no real difference besides the new design - the screens are apparently identical.
MacAddress have a good video on all the differences, including the value difference between the two. Their main takeaway is that you should only really get the new one if you must have the latest design compatible with the new keyboard accessories but can't afford the iPad Air, or if you use it so often for video calling that having the camera in the new place is a dealbreaker.
