Oh good, it's not just me who thinks that aspect of this is weird. Especially since Bernice is one of the pre-college characters (wiki says she's been Luann's best friend since third grade).

I forget how this recurring bit even started in the first place, but it's Team Evans so it's safe to assume they have no idea how normal people interact with each other.

I'm not sure whose side we're supposed to be on in this Luann storyline. On one hand, yeah, it's a little weird having Bernice and Luann's mum bonding over porn, but on the other hand Luann certainly seems to be being portrayed as an incredible prude that doesn't quite feel like we're supposed to agree with her. But this is Luann, so who knows.

IIRC, Bernice had to move in with Luann's family because nobody else likes herthere wasn't any room at the dorms or something like that, and Luann's mom loaned her a book to help her get to sleep.

I'm reading it as Luann is disapproving at how tacky and absurd their porn is.

I was really into Archies as a tween and I had heaps of old dog eared digests going back pretty far and they contained stories going back to the 50s.

Jughead has usually been what I'll call asexual - perfectly happy to sit down with Betty or Veronica for a conversation but thinks that the other guys are idiots for turning their lives inside out and quite frequently getting the poo poo kicked out of them in the pursuit of women. Sometimes he's written as being something of a woman hater, but in more of a phobic way like "aaaaaa eeeek girls get away from me" usually, but occasionally straight-up misogyny. And then sometimes he's paired up with tall gangly Ethel out of what feels like a sense of narrative balance/symmetry (i.e. every boy has a girl because they'd obviously want/need one).

Probably 50/25/25, respectively, from the 50s to the early 90s. After that idk I stopped reading them.

Apparently they've dialed Ethel's negative character extremes back quite a bit in recent decades, but um...she's also gone through some design changes.

That last one's a miniseries, and on the one hand, it takes a serious approach to the number being a high school crowd's designated punchline would do on you in the long term. On the other hand...well, there is such a thing as overcorrecting.

Wait a minute. Scratch is an anthropomorphic cat. But he doesn't do any of the normal crew stuff. He isn't allowed to hunt the mice. So why do they even keep him around? Before this comic I'd have just said "because they value his friendship" but I'm hard-pressed to imagine any friendship so powerful it would compel me to clean someone's poo poo for them when they could just do it themselves.

I think it's more the case that an elected official would demand a capital punishment for a non-capital punishment crime in Campbell's case.

But it is true that Campbell is quite the foppish dandy; and, on that note, in today's Blueberry: Blueberry neglects to read the fine print, or Virgil has a terrible bed-side manner, or Doc waxes philosophically
