IShallRiseAgain posted:Watched The Rig on Amazon. I think it probably would've worked better as a movie. I started watching this because of Emily Hampshire but it seems pretty silly two episodes in. Is the gist of it Earth/Gaia is trying to rid itself of impurities, e.g. the oil rigs? Because if so there's way too much foreshadowing of that, what with the rig falling apart, Baz's fillings being pushed out, the tattoos washing off of that dude, etc. I ain't gonna finish it, I'm just curious

Watching Death on the Nile on Hulu (with random commercial breaks in the middle of scenes). Some stray thoughts. The CG scenery is glaringly bad. Also, apparently Poirot was a young man during WW1, but in his 60s less than 20 years later. Gal Gadot continues to be a not very good actress. Adam Garcia, the love interest in Coyote Ugly, is in this and is 50 now. Annette Bening has a terrible English accent. Rose Leslie has a terrible French accent. Letitia Wright has a terrible American accent. The girl from Sex Education is in this, took a minute to figure out why she looked familiar.

I'm 25 minutes into the Pale Blue Eye and just now realized that Bale isn't playing Edgar Allan Poe, I thought the actual Poe was just a random poet who would inspire Bale to become one. God I'm dumb.

Has anyone been watching Paul T. Goldman? I'm not quite sure what to make of it just yet. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt24328636/ I'm getting an Exit Through the Gift Shop vibe.

Haven't watched it yet, but it's by the guy that directed Borat 2 and several episodes of Nathan For You. Thought this was a pretty good review: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-reviews/paul-t-goldman-review-1235287929/

From the first 2 episodes, it's part documentary about what "happened" to this guy, part dramatic reenactments of what "happened" to this guy but starring himself, and part documentary about this incompetent maniac. He's the world's most unreliable narrator, and I mean literally narrator as he often interrupts his own dramatic reenactments to read passages of narration from his self-published memoirs.

Every show gets a pretty decent demo of (no irony intended) "zombie viewers" which will literally never stop watching the show no matter how bad it gets. That's how shows that get absolutely massive seasons continue to shamble onward for years afterwards (again, no irony intended).

I stopped years ago when it became clear that the producers were intentionally just loving with the audience. But last time I had cable, there was an entire channel just dedicated to airing reruns of The Walking Dead, and its various spinoffs.

I put on random episodes for background noise and to hear the occasional "CORAL!!" I haven't watched on the regular since the Negan season. Are any of the spin-offs good or at least decent?

Man that was a bait and switch and one of the big reasons I quit watching very quickly. Given that it's AMC I'm guessing they cheaped out on the budget and didn't want show any large-scale scenes of civil chaos.

I'm watching Emily the Criminal with Aubrey Plaza on Netflix. I watch most things with subtitles on, and there have been some pretty funny inconsistencies. In one scene the subtitles say that some characters are speaking Armenian. The scene changes, but the subtitles now say they're speaking Arabic. In another scene her roommates are watching a movie which is clearly in Korean, but the subtitles say it's in Japanese.

Finally finished 1899 and have no idea what they would have done for the next two seasons. The story isn't finished, but it may as well be finished, there is as good a point as any. It's interesting to wonder why Dark worked and why 1899, despite some good moments, didn't. Perhaps because while they both had lots of crazy, "what could this mean" moments, the former was better at convincing you there was a reason and eventually delivering it it, while the latter has a lot of Lost-like "this crazy thing just happened and, uh, anyway you won't believe what happened next".
