or it could be he's in the icu in critical condition due to significant organ damage, and/or they have not yet ruled out various causes of cardiac arrest that could recur

when my stepdad was in the hospital recovering from surgery on his broken neck, he was ambulatory and talkative just 30m before a hemotoma almost killed him

I’d wager no good reason at all or easier to control flow of guests in the icu. (ICUs usually tend to be very locked units with tighter guest controls).

Plus it’s easier to staff. Once he gets to regular or step down floors the nurses aren’t going to be checking as frequently because they’ll have bigger ratios

If I’m the nurse working with him that shift? Sweet deal. A probably super nice and grateful dude who really only needs eyes on the monitor for anything odd. The only part that would suck would be how much your charting would be double or triple checked.

Vasoconstrictor meds this late would be odd for someone like him without any assumed comorbid conditions.

Being extubated this long wouldn’t require that frequent of ABGs so you could just straight stick him instead of keeping an art line which makes getting the patient t up and moving slightly more difficult.

Yeah if he was just a regular person off the street he would have been downgraded to a non ICU floor by now.

Organ damage takes a longer period of down time. It would have likely leaked if he required dialysis which would be the most likely “fixable” organ dysfunction that requires ICU nurse care.

Looking deeply into causes of cardiac arrest are usually going to be deep dives with odd stuff like cardiac mris or echos but don’t specifically require an ICU bed.

Hematomas are rough. I’ve never had an experience like that since usually we delivered to the ICU I know they’ve got a hematoma and any odd thing causes a trip to CT head.

Well, he was livetweeting all throughout the game today, so I suspect he'll be downgraded sooner than later even with all the attention on him and UCinn not wanting to gently caress a single thing up.

EDIT: also, man, the GFMe just crested 8.5m during the game. :unsmith: I am curious to hear his early thoughts about how exactly that'll be handled.

Is there an official “love for damar” shirt that supports his charity or something? My brother in law is a bills fan and it would be a good birthday present. I don’t want to just buy a knockoff or not have it support something.

As a matter of fact, he got one going today. Proceeds will go to support Cincinnati first responders and UCinn's trauma team.

(only complaint is that it goes through his Chasing Millions site, which itself reads kind of tacky)

Looks like he just got moved to a hospital closer to home/family/friends that can provide the level of care he now needs, which to be clear his initial hospital also has beds for lower levels of care but it's 99.9% likely he just got moved to be less travel time for family.

Yeah I just saw that he answered my question. Not to dump on Buffalo docs but sounds like the likely super specialists available at UCMC feel comfortable that he doesn't need them.

Straight from ICU to discharge though, bit of an express line, innit :v:

But yeah, it sounds like he's largely "fine" at this point outside of his ribs slowly re-hardening from jell-o. He'll probably be in the stands or possibly the sidelines for the games this month, though it'll depend mostly on how ambulatory he is at any given moment (but even that should probably only take a week or so more). If the doctors are willing to give him a clean bill of health and send him home, it's extremely unlikely he'll face any other complications unless he has a stumble or something. He'll have to do some physio but that's mostly to make sure he stays in shape - he's been a bed lump for the past week (so, equal to the physical activity of the average goon :v:).

He could maybe - m a y b e - be okay'd to play for the Supah Bawl, if/when the Bills get there. I'm sure he'd want to, if it happens. But we'll see.

It's just good that he's likely to make a full recovery.

Niwrad posted:

Fully recover from, especially at his age. If he was like 50 or some poo poo there'd be more of a concern, but at 24 he can heal from anything outside of brain injuries, still. (This is why we need to be louder about what's been happening with Teo.)

IF this was actually commotio cordis then he has no reason not to expect a full recovery.

IF there was something else, they'd probably know it by now and the answer could be different, but that seems very unlikely at this point.
