I don't want to keep Gregggg either, it's just that I think the pool of replacements the USSF will look at isn't particularly good or deep. Tata was a spectacular flameout with Mexico, but I don't think the USSF even interviewed him, which is collosal malpractice.

I can't see the USSF hiring a foreigner, which leaves Gregggg, another MLS coach, or hope Jesse Marsche gets fired soonish. Not great options bob

Exactly which is why this whole situation is mls as hell and ussf is a joke.

But Gregg shouldn’t be there after not playing Gio and definitely after he dumped Gio’s issues to the public like a moron, don’t let this silly reaction by his mom distract from that.

Maybe when the next one is also a dipshit that will be the catalyst for real change.

did gregg berhalter not play your kid also? you seem really mad at a soccer coach

its fine to want him out but hes a perfectly legitimate manager who won both regional competitions, successfully drove a youth movement and recruited several dual nats, and took the US team to the round of 16 which was about as far as you'd reasonably expect barring some luck. i'd have preferred to see reyna more than we did in qatar but your posts are like purestrain usmnt twiter nut job

My issues with Gregggg are

A) He was functionally a nepotism hire and he seemed like the USSF only candidate as they didn't even bother to interview a number of other coaches

B) I really don't like his tactics at all. The World Cup was the first time the USA came out gangbusters and really took it to an opponent. Better late than never, but they should have been playing like that for years and it never happened until the very end

C) He subbed on Shaq Moore during a defensive set piece which even a 5 year old should know better than to do. Seriously who does that it's awful

Crazy Ted
Jul 29, 2003

The fun part about having more subs now is managers have far more opportunities to make really stupid subs. It's like the final of EURO 2020/21 when England was looking at the real possibility of penalties in Wembley against Italy for the title for Gareth Southgate decided to sub on a combination of teenagers and guys who didn't play until the last minute of extra time and thought those same players would win him the penalty shootout.

It was beautifully stupid.

Austin's best defender leaving to go back to Norway due to family stuff, sadly. Really sucks, as he really covered Cascante doing bad Cascante things.

We signed some other guy from Denmark I've never heard of, assumedly, as a replacement https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/austin-fc-sign-finland-international-center-back-leo-vaisanen .

To continue Berhalter chat, he seems kind of clueless with tactics and extremely clueless with player management but I'd like to see who we can get to replace him before going full throated "Berhalter Out".

I guess going from "associated with the 90's MNT" to "associated with the 00's MNT" would be an upgrade.

it appears this is what USSF is doing right now which seems like a good idea. I am fairly skeptical there is an obvious upgrade available this early in the cycle, but happy to be proven wrong

i'm more concerned about hiring someone who is seen as a magical european foreign coach who is actually worse than berhalter but harder to get rid of

i don't really think berhalter is clueless about ~tactics~ at all, hes not perfect nor is any manager and i wouldn't have brought shaq moore to qatar much less subbed him on when he did. I think a lot people expect some other manager is going to come in and suddenly the US is winning every match 5-0 through one weird tactics trick when that isn't going to be the reality.

Yeah, this is why I suspect the USSF won't hire a foreigner coach. Bad memories of being burned by a complete and utter fraud

G-Hawk
Dec 15, 2003

To be clear i have no issue with a foreign coach (and given the other American options, would prefer one if Gregg is out) but there are also lots of lovely (or plain mediocre) foreign coaches, theres not dozens of amazing managers hanging out that ussf is just refusing to hire because nepotism.

And for the most part, the teams that went further than the United States in the world cup did not have managers with significant pedigree. Croatia went to a final in 2018 and a semi in 2022 with a guy who was bouncing around the middle east before he got the job. Morrocco was managed by a nobody.

Gregg demonstrated good planning and acumen against England only (where we looked great in the midfield but still had issues with the forwards and defenders) which is evidence he’s a scared-rear end bitch because no one expected anything from that match.

He’s an idiot fraud who has been gifted a legitimate top tier young midfield and a couple good attackers and any success he has had is because of those things and in spite of everything else.

Not to mention leaking poo poo to the press and alienating his best young player not named Tyler Adams (I’ll say it, he’s better than Pulisic).

MLS is considering changing its playoff format to include a best-of-three series in the first round, multiple sources have told The Athletic.

If adopted, it’s probable that only the first round would be contested as a best-of-three competition. The sources, who were not authorized to speak publicly about the proposed changes, said that the rest of the playoff tournament would likely be single-elimination. The proposed format would be divided by conference and would include 16 teams, eight each from the East and the West.

I was confused because I thought you were referring to Losada and not the coach of Montreal's reserve team.

quote:

In the wake of the Sept. 4, 2012, shooting at the PQ's victory party at Montreal's Metropolis Theatre, Grande's Twitter account read: "The only mistake the shooter made last night was missing his target! Marois!!! Next time, buddy! I hope!"
...
Grande's statements came three years after the Montreal Impact released him for having grabbed teammate Mauro Biello by the throat during practice in 2009.

I mean, this is less dumb than the group stage gimmick that got floated last month, and maybe it'll satisfy the owners whining about not being guaranteed a home playoff game but still I hope they don't change it, the last couple of years have been good
