I think they need a more reliable source of edge pressure more than anything else. It's malpractice that they played Huff so little; he should be seeing 20 snaps a game even if he's not a good fit against the run. Hopefully Johnson takes a step next year too.

There are like 5 elite edges in the NFL. I think their group is fine and they should be able to create pressure without having all pros at edge.

And they do. They were 5th in the league in pressures. They don't have an go-to elite pass rusher but they consistently get pressure and have elite coverage corners. I've said before they have a exploitable middle of the field with mediocre safeties and coverage linebackers but the foundation of the defense is stout.

Total Pressures
Cowboys 353
Eagles 338
Patriots 334
Niners 331

Yeah I don't think getting pressures is the issue. Like I said before they don't fool anyone and that is what creates a lot of turnovers.

Aren't interceptions mostly luck based? Plus teams just aren't throwing at Sauce. Im not too mad about turnovers, I feel like they forced a ton of fumbles but never managed to recover them.

Yeah turnovers in general have a ton of variance. The Texans tied for 3rd most takeaways and the Vikings tied for 4th most and those defenses are garbage.

My biggest takeaway is that the Dolphins forced the QB to hurry a lot, but it didn’t matter because our secondary was a blazing dumpster fire.

Yeah. It makes me wonder how intensive the fix is. We might need an entire back seven, we might just need Needham and Brandon Jones healthy again and a replacement for Byron Jones.

I think the issue here is a lot of this looks like a continuation of what the defense looked like a lot of last year with those guys. The uptick you had late in the year is unattributable I guess but it looks a bit suspect all around.

Was just reading a long form on ESPN about Tua's health and this bit struck me.

quote:

Like his brother, Taulia is a football player, but what he had just seen scared him -- Tua spun around and violently flung to the turf, smacking the back of his head on the ground. He remained on the Bengals' logo, with his forearms raised and his fingers stiffened in a contorted position near his face.

He tapped his mom's number again, and again, and started to cry. "It just looked really bad," he said.

When Diane Tagovailoa answered, she said Tua was with the doctors and had to be rushed to the hospital. His father eventually got on the phone and told Taulia to focus on Michigan State.

So this will be the Dolphins 5th playoff game since their last playoff win. The starting QBs in those games will be Skylar Thompson, Jay Fiedler, Matt Moore, and Chad Pennington (who threw 4 picks in his game)

The four games played were lost by a collective 104-24. I don't think there was a single second in any of them where it looked like the Dolphins might have a chance to win.
