There is no point at all in building venture stuff anymore is there? Can you still send ships on fake ventures that don't go to anyone's game to get things or is it all dead?

It feels like it was a lot longer ago than it actually was, but I think their June 2022 update to let people get at already-acquired venture skins was the most recent "we're still working on it, promise" update, and 6 months in egosoft time isn't too long ago. (I do wonder if the fact that their long tail playerbase is inevitably "the ones most likely to use mods in the first place" has resulted in a bit more frission about what aspects of the game they should be focusing on, though.)

Tonight was the first time I ever built an absurdly overpowered defense station right on a gate and stood on it while Xenon came flying over the top, what a fireworks show.

anyone have a recommended mod list?

edit: was doing one of the opening terran missions (after grabbing the dlc) and was escorting a ship to a station (was like the first mission after the tutorial stuff) that was under attack by 4 xenon destroyers. I don't think that was part of the scripted encouter because none of the voice acting/scripting acknowledged it and both the station and the ship I was escorting blew up. and then me. and now I'm floating out in space with 40k credits and a wingman who wants to go open a lockbox lol.

oh 4 destroyers and a battleship lol

yeah i increased the frequency of the autosaves a bit later.

but it wasn't till i had another issue, where my ship was just... exploding. for no discernable reason.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6J095v2fKvY

i even posted it on the egosoft discord and no one knew wtf

edit: oh this was a problem because i hadn't changed the autosave frequency yet, and I was only using the quicksave (assumed it made multiple quicksaves and didn't overwrite 1)

ended up having to restart that too since I was basically in a loop.

How about 4x as long

This sort of thing is why the multiplayer is always going to be a joke to me, there's so many minor but impactful QOL changes that are worth so very, very much more than some async mission mode

Multiplayer sounds like a fun idea but in practice I can't think of any way to do a particular cool version of it that wouldn't be incredibly annoying at the same time

A shared server instance where everyone in it's setting up competing companies maybe and things keep going while you're offline, but you'd have to scale things to account

There used to be a bug where if you did a certain pattern, you could softlock the entire puzzle from being completable. That was a fun bug to lose 2 hours to.

A bunch of my reps are at -15 and I'd like to bump them up to -10 so my miners can cover a wider area. If I send some ships to hang out in front of stations to pop the criminals will they try to attack the station if I haven't declared war?

No, but you'll also have to do it yourself iirc-- I'm pretty sure the station criminals won't spawn unless you're personally nearby, and even if they did I'm also pretty sure that under vanilla X4 you don't get rep/money unless you personally last-hit the enemy in question (without a mod to change that, anyways)

ZombyDog

Yeah so it's got to be done in person, and I'd argue for most factions it's not a huge time sink, travelling between stations until you've popped the 5-6 criminals to get to -10 ( my SOP is to fly to a station, hang around for a couple of minutes until a criminal spawns then fly to the next one ), and if you pick a system that has higher Xenon traffic it's even easier to get to -10 if you pull the M's and Ns to within 4km of a station and while you're not necessarily doing a whole lot you could argue that your burgeoning empire is still making money for you in the background. The exception is with Ministry of Finance as they only have a total of 4 stations in game in relatively stable systems ( occasionally their Shipyards might get attacked by a Rattlesnake but that's a little bit more of an effort than popping 5-6 criminals ), but you may want to still get friendly with them so you can claim bounties in Teladi space ( except ACAB ) or because you want to sell stuff to their stations.

Thankfully for stuff like that I have a mod that populates systems with missions and I can even take them from hostile factions for stuff like MIN. It also makes early game less of a pain in the rear end without needing to give myself 2mil in a custom game

I'm a fan of the "better kill credit" stuff because even at a base level, getting rep for parking your fleet in defense of some poor rear end in a top hat's station against a xenon threat makes more sense than "rep gain by shooting random space-cars at their station unsolicited" or "rep gain by hauling one battery from one of their stations to another on a loop"
