(lol) Children don't have constant pressure of competition. (less than China sure but also lol) Trying to remember specific propaganda stuff they mentioned. Only one I have off the top right now is "the West is anti-China, but people here have always been so nice to me and I'm Chinese so this is proven false".

I was only joking. Helen Yaffe talks a bit about how Cuba approaches the issue of people who have fallen off the revolution in her We Are Cuba book. I'm running some errands right now, and will will post the exerts when I get back to my computer.

Let's hope the common voters of Taiwan realize how much dangerous uncharted water Tsai has steered the Taiwan ship into and make a effort to push back on DPP's foreign policy of completely betting on the US side. And thus making the election next spring more interesting.

That by definition isn't reaching study abroad types but it's gotta be doing something to keep young thinkers on track in China.

They all had major support and respect for the protests against zero covid back in China, and this was only very partially due to their own benefitting of removing travel restrictions. Most of them plan to go back to China and live their lives there after they finish their studies but see the people protesting as "risking their lives to make China better". about to go to bed but there's imo there's some aspect of post-modern perspective about this that might be useful. i think baudrillard lays out how perception skews reality until it is superseded by it. i only have a half-baked conception of it tho

And tbh whenever I read translated Chinese government texts my eyes kinda glaze over. The language is very particular and to me at least very annoying. Imo CPC should do more basic explaining on why they take the actions they have taken. Even better if up front about when poo poo goes wrong what was intentional and a bad idea in hindsight and what was not intentional. At the same time, not like I'm a propaganda expert, so maybe I'm just flat wrong here. Again from those Chinese I speak though, they aren't in my estimation hostie to their government, but they certainly don't understand it.

I was more talking coastal cities in the west than in China. I can see how you might think neoliberalism is great if your experience is living in SF or London or Berlin as a skilled professional. Much less so if you’re talking about West Virginia or the Bible Belt. Especially comparing the status of these places over time.

My family friend who moved to the US from China first became a reactionary neolib, but then became a HOA leading mega racist who moved back to China because of Those People. So I guess she imported the grievances of white suburbanites / rural car dealership owners.
