maybe they forgot turkey booted out all the us bases except Incirlik and that other one and that it has ongoing conflicts and actually applies political pressure for its own benefit. demilitarization would mean they can't really deal with their local problems and would become dependent on the US (or russia lol no jk) in a pretty big way.
