Darth Maul (who features prominently in that episode and who is on-screen a few seconds before that shot of Ahsoka) survived being cut in half and thrown down a giant pit, so if a Star Wars cartoon wants me to believe someone is dead they need to do more than use ambiguous symbolism.

Ehhh, that scene more so exists to stylistically cast a small seed of doubt, to end the season with a burning question: was there a fleeting moment where the heart of Anakin briefly overcame Vader's hatred and he might've spared Ahsoka? Most would probably argue no (and they would've been right), but the imagery was very much meant to stir up an argument considering how much we know about the Anakin/Vader dichotomy and his relationship to Ahsoka. Filoni toying with all the "Ahsoka lives" stuff in the wake of Twilight of the Apprentice also points to plans suggesting he never meant to officially kill off the character in that finale anyways.

So when Ezra traveled back in time to save Ashoka he created a new timeline where she survived.

Time travel isn't real, so the rules from one movie don't apply to another.

It's a topic on very loose footing because death isn't particularly real in star wars anyway. If darth maul can survive probably anyone can, and that's before we get into palpatine soul transferrence, ghosts, etc. "No one's ever really gone" was not so much a spiritual or metaphorical statement as a mundane factual one

Yeah but universes with time travel generally show if it's causal/split timeline/whatever.

Rebels specifically had Ezra do something that would "break" the timeline right after Ahsoka with that as the reasoning being given (that he was fated to do that and not to mess things up), so it's BIll and Ted 1 and 2 causal rules and not Back to the Future "gradually merging timelines when you change stuff" or Dragon Ball "create multiple universes every time."

Nobody dies from falling in Star Wars is the rule, so Han can always come back!

Yes but as Doctor Spaceman pointed out, there was a tiny scene of Ashoka walking away, whereas in the world between worlds she was yanked out of that scene into the future, so there's already a timeline split right there

Kylo had just received severe brain damage from leia trying to remotely paralyze him, there is every out for han being a hallucination in that scene. Harrison ford has demonstrated his stance against reprising the character doesn't hold up against checks, to say nothing of what can be done with his digital zombie. I feel in the long run he's definitely coming back
