I am not sure if recruiters are just shooting their shot and hoping they get lucky or if they really are as slow as they come across in every Linkedin contact. What do you mean you don't want to take a temporary contract position 6 titles lower than your current position with 30% of the pay and no benefits, don't you at least want to discuss it?

Those guys are just resume farmers. They're not actually recruiting, all they want is personal data they can aggregate and sell to marketers and/or turn over to the CCP. I tell my users to block them on sight.

Yah it will. I am new to this bar but these are my obs:

- the grips don’t require a lot of grip strength, since you hook your fingers on them. No need for straps or worry about your grip limiting back growth

- the neutral handles fry my lats very hard

- the 22 inch length is just right in that Goldilocks zone

I am not sure about that, they tend to be at known contract recruiting agencies and such and have actual positions, but they are obviously just shotgunning out stuff to any resume with any slight overlap to the position. It could be true as well if they are faking their info or making side money selling your stuff, but I am pretty sure if I responded they would have an actual role.

Yeah this is why I haven’t posted on LinkedIn about me being laid off. Someone I work with posted about it and got over 200 messages on LinkedIn in a matter of a few hours. There’s no way all of that is legit.

I’ve had a ton of recruiters that are recruiting for their companies and a ton of recruiting agencies reaching out just because it’s news in the industry that my company did layoffs. I’m 100% giving my time first to the recruiters that actually work for the company they recruit for before anyone else.

I’ve also worked in the industry long enough that I have a ton of contacts. I’ve already been offered two jobs that I’ve turned down because they weren’t what I wanted/money wasn’t where I wanted it. There’s no shortage of people hiring.

my company, a multinational software corp with over 100,000 employees, exclusively uses recruiters for hiring. Which sucks. But it is very common in this industry, and it means that at least some of those recruiters out there are legit. You have to filter through the mess, you can't just blanket ignore all the recruiters, if you want to land a job in many industries today.

Also, recruiters are almost universally bad. Some of them are only somewhat bad, feeding us resumes of dozens of unqualified people along with quite a fair few qualified people. Some are pathetic, just spamming poo poo out there and bringing in almost nobody remotely suited to a software technical writing job. My boss says sometimes she has leeway to fire a recruiter but usually all she can do is pass feedback up the chain and hope someone higher up agrees to yeet them. Which they sometimes do, but maybe not till weeks later.

On the flip side, I get contacted by recruiters via linkedin all the time. They're mostly obviously spamming like crazy. No, I do not want to open a fast food franchise. No, I do not want to work full time, mandatory in-office, 150 miles away from where I live. No, I am not interested in connecting with you, random person I've never met who has zero contacts in common with me and a completely blank introduction.

My advice to you is to start drinking heavily.
I agree that recruiters are mostly volume shooters, and shouldn't be relied on if you're job-seeking.
Having said that, I just had a recruiter contact me on LinkedIn with a specific job at a known company citing specific job skills I have in my profile. That's seemingly low bar is still difficult for most messages to hit, so if a good one actually found their way to my inbox I could use that contact when I'm actually looking to job hop.

But that's one of a slew of lovely messages I was interested in following up on.

+1 to pretty much all of this.

Recruiters work on quantity, not quality. The 30k employee company I worked for a couple years ago went exclusively through recruiters, which was annoying as hell when they were trying to rush hire me, and me and the hiring manager had contact info for each other, but had to do everything official through the recruiter channels. They were at least quick to respond because it was closing the deal.

When I wanted to change industries and reached out with a request requiring any amount of nuance beyond "give hiring manager a resume", it was radio silence.

I've also gotten the WTF messages on LinkedIn, and having worked in so many different industries they really are just all over the place.

Every job I've ever had was through a recruiter. But there was a lot of shots in the dark from the recruiters who also didn't apparently read my resume so I've definitely had to sift through terrible offerings.

Guess I coulda been more nuanced. I actually like recruiters - they mean there is verifiably a job, it's not just getting filled by Tommy Boy's relative, and my resume is going to be actually read by the hiring manager. I don't even bother applying to jobs I haven't spoke to a recruiter about first anymore - I never got a call back anyway. Like two or three times a week I get obviously genuine recruiters whom you can tell actually searched me out, and for those I actually do respond since I'm still looking around.

For every one of those however I get 25 emails from shady people looking for my resume to sign me up for some 1099 grunt work. Those are the fakes and resume farmers.
