I love Stabbing Westward. Their new album is just about as good as their old stuff.

Don't recognize the song? Don't worry, you will.

I definitely had no clue what the guy who made this song was actually like. Seems pretty cool. Also, I guess this kind of feels like a "spoiler for real life"? But about halfway through watching I noticed the artist himself currently has the top pinned comment on the video.

I like this guy's vids but Bob Hoskins was a delightfully weird connection.

All systems nominal.
This may not be "the most 90s" thing, but it certainly is the most "only in the 90s" thing:

The band Sublime came up in a discord chat. Apparently they just played halftime at an LV Raiders game. That seems impossible since the band ended in '96.

Sublime with Rome? Not quite the same band. They did tour under the name Sublime, until Bradley Nowell's estate got them to change the name a bit.

quote:

Sublime with Rome is a musical collaboration between Eric Wilson, formerly of the American ska punk band Sublime, and singer and guitarist Rome Ramirez. The group's name is not only a reference to the singer's first name, but to the fact that they chiefly perform songs by the original Sublime, which was fronted by Bradley Nowell until his death in 1996.

The ad was also 90s sarcastic, kids weren’t actually supposed to be impressed by Robert Loggia. We were supposed to be impressed by their acknowledgement of advertising being vapid. Though they really should’ve just said that orange tangerine was the flavor of ecto cooler.

it's rumored that robert loggia kept forgetting lines when he was on The Sopranos which is why he was written off so quickly. he was diagnosed with alzheimer's in 2010 and died of it in 2015.

I didn’t know that Boku was still A Thing in 1993 though. Probably would have thrown a shoe at the TV by that point

Richard Lewis demonstrates that narcissists can be self loathing.

I think I'm a doctor, but that doesn't make me a doctor. This fancy avatar does.
I remember as a kid in thought Boku was for ADULTS ONLY, like it contained alcohol or something.

I also appreciated that a box of Boku is sitting on a table in the TVA Headquarters in an episode of Loki. Makes sense that they'd be able to get discontinued (or not yet made) food and drinks.

Isn't self loathing a sign of narcissism? Like your sins and faults are so great and powerful that utter contempt is the only reasonable response?

keep in mind those commercials were filmed during the height of Richard Lewis' coke and crystal meth addiction to the point that he stopped doing stand-up tours

His entire schtick is the "Sef Hating Jew" and he does it so loving well in Curb.

I'm 35 so I don't think I've ever seen his act other than bits and pieces, but he is so good at being mad at himself and Larry David

I hate Sublime, not due to the music, because i'm mildly indifferent to it, but What I Got comes out and every wanna be stoner in high school is suddenly super into them, and I get told stuff like "no you see, he died that makes the music so much better" and "omg he talks about his mom smoking pot, thats hosed up!". I was among many, very, very white kids in high school, so any music that talked about drugs openly was a huge thing with them.
