It's been said many times before already but today my thoughts have me lamenting how the age of tiktok, twitch streaming, etc would have benefited so many wackpackers who died before their time came to crush it on those platforms :qq:

ETM on Cameo would have provided at least a few hours of content on THSS each week. Recapping all of the requests he rejected, going over his list of rules and restrictions for what kind of content he'd produce (you know it would be like 30+ items that were all overly specific), people who would edit various requests to get him to say weird things, etc.

I don't know if cameo does reviews, but t I can see a whole bunch of people that would pay for a cameo call from etm, when he called, they would just berate him for being an ingrate (which he was) he'd hang up and theyd write " not worth the $74.39 to get him to call you".

You really got a feel for how genuinely insane Eric was towards the end when they highlighted the huge number of consumer brands he followed on Twitter for no apparent reason.

I don't remember when Rapidly going Deaf was opened, or when we were moved in here from GBS. That would be back in '05/'06 which were that Radium days so who knows if those threads are even indexed or perhaps lost.

It was like TVIV posting, for sure. I distinctly recall when Artie let is slip that he was on Heroin and there were pages and pages of talk on that.

Hank would have won every time. He was mobile (when not blackout drunk anyway) and doesn't need to pause between words.

I assume it was GBS, but I can't find a thread in the archives.

I randomly stumbled upon a clip of the Artie vs Teddy fight and just wanted to read the comments and speculation afterwards since I remember reading the thread.

Haven't listened to Howard probably since 2011 but from what I hear I haven't missed much. Those early Sirius years were golden though 😘👌

Eric was the ultimate consumer. Gary pointed it out once when Eric was rambling on about American Idol and their “mission statement” and all that, he was totally the demo that companies marketed to because he never once questioned anyone’s motives unless it affected himself - which was his bottom line. He did try to scam Johnny out of money, yes, but based on his voicemails and his Amazon wishlist I think he just liked accumulating STUFF.

Remember when he made an open plea to get free Fandango gift cards?

The thing with etm is, he did nothing. The guy was so disabled he probably couldn't get a job anywhere. He even had difficulties talking, let alone doing any job that requires walking, moving, typing or whatever.

So what the gently caress could he do he had nothing but time on his hands (and his own jizz) so he might as well follow everything on Twitter, or Facebook or wherever. I tend to stick to certain forums and threads here and sometimes I'm finished reading all the threads I read here in like an hour. Same with Facebook, I can scroll down and start seeing poo poo I've already seen very quickly because I don't follow 3000 different bands, products, tv shows etc . But I have a job, I can go for a walk, a drive or whatever so even if I'm bored I have other poo poo I can do.

He had very little of that. Or seems to have had fery little of it.

He also used to complain that "the lake house" was super isolated. I imagine him and Jon being alone in a little vacation house, Jon able to escape on occasion to socialize or run errands, and Eric mostly stuck alone in his bedroom. It makes sense that he was addicted to the internet and trying to set up some corner of it that he controlled. Of course the rest of the world just wanted to laugh at him failing at it because he was incredibly delusional.

Its possible it was moved from GBS to another subforum that has been long since forgotten. I think there may have even been a short lived Bubba thread. I lost my job days after Artie left and that was probably the last time I listened live because I ended my sup and sold my radio.

Wow. I have not used that in a LONG time. The ARG events were really fun too. I stopped going to TVIV halfway through Season 1 of Walking Dead due to how lovely the discussion got. Also the Bobs Burgers threads where posters kept complaining season after season that Sportsball was going to cause the show to get cancelled. Yet here it is on its 84th season of whatever.

For a show that at its height was one of the edgiest things on Tv and Radio everything about the presentation now is extremely middling.

The pottery barn studio, the short YouTube clips, even the generic puppets Fred uses. Just all so very lame.

I really feel that Jimmy Kimmel, as Howard’s “friend”, recommended those generic Crank Yankers puppets on his radio show as a total joke to secretly goof on him, much like how he laughed with Dax Shepard over his harrrible photos he got from Howard as a gift.

The website was always bad. Only things I remember about it is Jason writing a blog post about Fred that drove him insane and the message board.

Howard went from genuinely excited about it to shutting it down after it just became about bashing the show and hosting content of dubious legality.

Honestly, that may have helped him start to move away from his toxic masculinity more than his decades of therapy did.

Semi-related: perhaps the most mind-blowing personal detail I’ve ever heard Howard reveal on the air is that, despite, as noted above, having been in therapy for *decades* (with the same therapist, multiple days per week), he has never once discussed his porn habits with his therapist.

That's absolutely true. He has said repeatedly in interviews that his legacy has gotten super important to him which is a driving force behind his "evolution." The toxicity of his fan base when he tried to really connect with them more in the 2000s was likely a big indicator to him that he wasn't going to be remembered how he wanted.

He’s actually spoken with great sincerity many times about how transformative therapy has been in his life, and advocates for others to do the same … as long as it’s the same kind that *he* uses, of course. Which is Freudian analysis.
