I remember working for a small web hosting provider with one guy whose job was on the line. He sort of knew he was going to be sacked in the next day or so and was a little depressed by it. It got particularly concerning though when I heard him running through a new passport with a customer on the phone...quote:- Ok... so it's the number one.... then seven... then s as in uh... "sad".... k as in uh... "kill" , e as in "everybody".... Fortunately this was Melbourne, Australia so I knew there was minimal chance of it going further but it still weirded the gently caress out of me.

This might be an odd question, but is there an online booking site that uses Sabre for routes? I think Google flights must use its own custom thing because I'm getting sabre scenarios bounced off me by a travel agent that I don't even remember coming up as options with Google flights searches.

It's only a matter of time.... QANTAS has had 4 midair emergencies in 3 days at my latest count. I'm sure this has nothing to do with outsourcing and layoffs in maintenance. Thanks for this. I had forgotten that the podcast existed. I watched a few of the very early ones and they were, uh, rough, but they seem to be in a groove now and it looks like I have hundreds of hours of back content to explore. I miss the Franklin podcasts though, they were highly entertaining and informative but I get that it was a lot of work.

I think Google flights must use its own custom thing because I'm getting sabre scenarios bounced off me by a travel agent that I don't even remember coming up as options with Google flights searches. Even if an OTA uses Sabre for availability, the routing engine is usually separate. The only instances I know of where Sabre is providing routing is direct airline deployments like JetBlue. This is the same concept as booking work travel through Concur; it has its own business rules that define the results that are returned to you when you search, and those results are calculated independently of what may actually be available via the GDS.

My favorite Concur story is one where a direct flight was available, but Concur would only show it if you booked a hotel and flight at the same time. Booking just the flight only showed trips with layovers. that's probably a config/business rules issue, but what the hell

The comment of “I’ve sent out more plans than there are planes that exist” is pretty good. My gut is that they’re modified to have lower specs than actual and purposefully leaked by Russian intelligence, but on the other hand everything we’ve been seeing for the last year or so…

It's an airliner on an IFR plan so it's fine. If that were a VFR flight yes that would be suicidal.
