Partly. Also whip style cutters don't work on woody weeds nearly as well as blade style.

He doesn't really explain why it explodes so violently though? Isn't it because there's air trapped in between the 'pages' (are they Post-It notes?), same reason some bound novels he crushed exploded in a similar way?

I saw a video of the family dogs being led up the sidewalk to the front door leavibg a perfect set of tracks. I would love that. They used Vaseline to protect the dogs paws.

I assume it's caused by the massive friction generated by sheets of paper. As soon as one sheet fails all that tension releases at once, exploding the room.

Mythbusters had a good episode demonstrating it with how much force it took to pull two interleaved phonebooks apart. It took 5000 pounds, and that only ripped the binding out.

its a localised fusion reaction; as the air gets compressed out of the space, paper molecules get closer and closer until finally they get squished into a cardstock molecule which releases a TON of energy as an explosion

Here's an earlier example of paper on the hydraulic press:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KuG_CeEZV6w

That amount of pressure causes the paper to combust. So somewhere in the stack of post its there's probably a little fused frangible chunk and the combustion just made confetti out of everything else that didn't combust.

Yeah, a few sources confirm you are correct.
Interesting, I have never seen "dyke" used for the hydrological structure despite working in rivers and floodplains for years.
