He seems especially intent on pointing out that J! is not a pure test of knowledge, but does anyone seriously believe otherwise? In my limited experience the knowledge you have to display in order to be eligible to appear on the show is far more advanced and esoteric than the knowledge you're typically asked about on the show itself, because they want the audience to be able to follow along, and because they want one (and ideally more than one) contestant to be able to answer each and every question correctly so the stakes are high and the show moves quickly. The guy already competes at the highest level of quizzing in the country and everybody knows it, so it's hard not to read it as bitterness at not excelling at this particular format. Even though he did pretty well!

Archive for [insert critical commenter's name] and found nothing". I'm not surprised at all that there's basically the equivalent of incel gamergaters within the trivia community who have nothing better to do than stroke this sad, sad man's very fragile ego. As is tradition, anyone pointing out that this dude needs to take a step back is simply labeled a troll.

Yogesh gave me an air of smugness when he was on there, so I'm not terribly surprised. I didn't especially care for Cris but he never came across that way to me.

Sometimes it's best to just take the prize money and shut up. Did he spend twenty minutes trying to convince Ken and the judges that "Treasure Bonds" "were first sold in 1908, at a price equivalent to about $27,000 today" And also, most quiz leagues and quiz anything are very light hearted, so it just sounds like a guy who passed a jeopardy test, probably was in the holding pool for a couple years because "I beat James Holzhauer at TCONA" isn't as much of a flex or interesting anecdote as "one of my personsal items is in the Smithsonian" or "my cat is named after a doctor who character" And he's now on scorched earth, I just pray this isn't the start of some sort of Batman-style Rogue Origin story.

A lot of the comments coming in response to anyone critical of this meltdown are giving me vibes that they'll be dropping "it's about ethics in quiz show journalism" next. I really do wonder how far it goes before Jeopardy producers become aware of it and if they'd take some sort of action (is there a non-disparagement clause in the NDA you have to sign?), especially since it's not a look they want associated with what generally seems like a really great community of past champs.

yeah there's a few things in the contestant agreement they could absolutely enforce if they wantedquote:I agree that I shall not, in public communication of any kind, including, without limitation, communications with the press or other media and communications with or on any social media site, criticize, ridicule, or make any statement that disparages or is derogatory of the Program, the Producer, Sony Pictures Television Inc., CBS Television Distribution, or any parent, subsidiary or division thereof. Except as specifically provided herein or as otherwise authorized by Producer, I agree that I will not receive or generate any monetary advantage from my appearance on the Program. I recognize that a breach by me of this paragraph would cause Producer irreparable injury and damage that cannot be reasonably or adequately compensated by damages in an action at law and, therefore, I hereby expressly agree that Producer shall be entitled to injunctive and other equitable relief to prevent and/or cure any breach or threatened breach of this paragraph by me. quote:I agree that I will conduct myself at all times for the duration of my participation on and in connection with the Program, and during the term of this Agreement, in a professional, civil and respectful manner. I will not engage in behavior, which may be deemed in the discretion of Producer to be embarrassing or detrimental to the Program, the Producer, other participants, Sony Pictures Television Inc, CBS Television Distribution, or any parent, subsidiary or division thereof. I further agree that before, during or after my appearance on the Program, I will not harass, intimidate, or threaten anyone, including without limitation, the production staff, other contestants, the host, or any other individual, whether or not connected with the Program. that said i think they're just hoping troy goes on a huge run and yogesh gets out of the spotlight and they don't have to put the hammer down--that said, yogesh does not appear to have any intention of giving up the spotlight so i guess we will see!

Yogesh is gonna scream into the void for a little bit, get some minor attention, and then disappear. At best, he'll be brought up as a bit of trivia in the future for being obnoxious.

I don't think he's going to be invited to one of Buzzy's trivia nights. The secret to jeopardy is the wagering and buzzer speed, the second the light turns on, you gotta react fast. And those that can figure out the exact last syllable of Mayim or Ken of their reading speed tend to do well. If you wanted "how good are you at trivia where everybody gets the same question and you fill it in", the closest would be The Big Fat Quiz and even then, they'll be upset it's not "played seriously"
