Just got the Rainworld dlc and noticed a few odd things.

The dlc was part of a mod load menu and was not enabled on start up. Its been so long I don't recall if I modded the game or not. Is it supposed to be unloaded at first?

I use a DS4 and the controls are weird. Some of the buttons are swapped around and trying to select a new controller preset in the steam configurator quietly closes the configurator window. It's weird and annoying. I hope someone else has had the same and knows what might cause this.

Tried playing as Gourmond for a bit but couldn't quite understand the few hints the game gives you at the start. They're so oddly written. He can make meals or something?

He has even less guidance than baseline slug cat and a odd starting location. Not sure what they expect of me so Im just gonna roam I guess.

The mod menu is built into the game now, and yeah it's normal for the dlc to come like that.

Don't know what's up with your Steam controller thing.

With Gourmand, you can craft items together by holding up and grab while carrying something different in each hand. Like right away you can make a lantern to help with getting through the area you start in. I'm a big fan of smashing together firecracker plants and rocks to make grenades. If you have two different edible items in your hands you'll eat them together for bonus food pips.

As far as goals, you can work on filling out the list of ingredients above your food pips. It's a pre-set list of exotic flavors the Gourmand wants to sample. It'll reveal the next one in the list as a hint, but you're free to find and eat them out of order. It's like an optional objective, but you do get something for finishing it.

If you want a more concrete objective: start with Five Pebbles, like usual.

E: maybe make sure you've got Playstation style controls set in the bottom right corner of the options menu.

Also don't forget you can cough up a random item by holding grab w/o something stored in your stomach. Find a popcorn plant and go nuts imo

But most of all, you cheated BABA

Today, to my shock, I discovered that Dark Devotion, Death's Gambit: Afterlife and Vigil the Longest Night aren't the same game. Despite having very similar art styles, being in the same genre, and having similarly wonky stories.

Has anyone else played them?

GameSpot: 5 out of 10

quote:

Exposition regularly cuts into the experience, however. Frey and Cuff quip a lot, and though Cuff does have a few humorous one-liners and insightful commentary on the world of Atheia over the course of the story, Frey...does not. Frey is one of the weakest parts of Forspoken.

IGN: 6 out of 10

quote:

Forspoken is a remarkably generic RPG – from its bland story to its lifeless open world.

Shacknews calls the story "terrible", NPR says the game is "uninterested in its Black protagonist, and at worst resentful of her". And App Trigger, the currently top positive review on metacritic, calls it "a genuine story of humanity".

16 hours...what's the shortest "open world" game you've seen guys? I guess technically No More Heroes at 13.5 and Brutal Legend at 12 were my shortest OW games.

quote:

Before I wrap up, let’s spare a word for Frey, a notionally Black protagonist who joins a growing trend in media of putting Black people in worlds where race is inconsequential. Except the game is very insistent that Frey is a New Yorker, mysterious birth or no, spending her entire life up until this point growing up in our decidedly nonfantasy world, where Blackness is not a nonfactor. Regrettably, Frey’s identity is thinly written and awkwardly deployed, as the story leans not only on stereotypical narratives but trauma as a plot device.

I dont really understand this paragraph, should there have been characters yelling slurs at her? Maybe people just wanna be a black lady and run around in a game i dunno. Like I know a lot of people who like Dragon age because you can be gay in it, and AFAIK there's literally no fucks given by any NPC except for like, one in the entire franchise...I don't think the story would be better if you randomly got beer bottles thrown at you from moving cars like I have

BAWWW-UNH!
15-20 hour main story is pretty common for open world games (Just Cause, Arkham, Far Cry, old AssCreeds etc). Most of them double that playtime with distractions, of course.

Shortest that I can think of is Prototype 2 with about 10 hours.

In other, hopefully better-written news, Trackmania 2020 is finally coming to Steam in a bit over a week after a couple of years in the uPlay and EGS wilderness. Granted, it'll still require the uPlay client like most of Ubi's Steam release so god only knows how it'll handle on the Deck, but hey, it's there!

death's gambit isn't great. yet another kinda wonky attempt at 2d souls-like that's just alright (better than salt & sanctuary at least) but towards the end of the game it gets overtaken by increasingly unfun bullshit

current Rain World status because idk where else to post and I'm really annoyed: goddamn overseer did it to me again

this time i'd just found my way from the shoreline to the shaded citadel, whereupon I got extremely lost in the horrible dark and got eaten several times, until the overseer popped up again... and led me back to Industrial Complex instead of the next area! So now I've got to run back through, somehow find 4 food along the way, then figure out how the hell I get that little shithead pointing me in the right direction

how this game remains compelling when it foists this poo poo on me I'll never quite know :tizzy:

Speedrun mode lets you keep all your gear and portcrystals from a previous save file so you can just warp directly to the quest objectives, use your pre-stocked 100 blast arrows and endgame gear to instantly kill everything, and get out. There's no way you could beat the entire game starting from a fresh save file in a couple of hours without some major speedrunning routing and optimization. The Any% WR is still over an hour and that's highly optimizaed.

I was just glancing at my finished games, and i only put 10.5 hours into Mirror's Edge Catalyst. I definitely didn't 100% it, but I didn't stick just to the necessary missions.
