Their own former manager called for the Iran team to be barred from Qatar over the recent government crackdown on protests, there are apparently going to be close to zero public gathering places for people to go and support the team, and some but not all players are starting to publicly show support for the domestic protests, which itself could either mean that others just haven't come out publicly or that there are divisions in the locker room.

Our good friends at Defector have previews up, going team by team: At Its Second-Ever World Cup, Canada Is Here To Stay At Long Last, The USMNT Is Back At The World Cup Mexico Is Going Nowhere and I guess If Nothing Else, Costa Rica Has Sentimentality On Its Side though I don't think we have any explicit fans of CR here.

There are (or have been) at least 3 other ticos around the forums that I know of but they dont post much anymore. I enjoyed that preview but I would argue that Bryan is not our main guy anymore, Joelito is by far our best and lost important player after Navas.

There's only a couple names I don't recognize, I have no idea who Jalen Neal is or the randoms based in Scandinavian leagues. about half are fringe national team players who are fine but probaby (hopefully) not part of competitive play beyond maybe the gold cup this year. the other half are younger players. Interested to see baby Aaronson and Cowell (though his stock is down some), as well as how Tolkin and Vazquez look. Notably 3 dual nats (all US/Mex), Vazquez, Zendajas, and Gomez. Yeah i dunno what the point of gressel is, i guess its a nice story and all (he became a U.S. citizen in November) but that doesn't seem like a good reason to call someone up. Maybe there is symbolic value in being open to dual nats joining the program later into their career, maybe hes just the nicest greatest locker room guy. With most of the real team unavailable it isn't really a big deal, but slightly odd.
