So, Iupiter Iratus was confirmed as an option for the anniversary event. It's the usual rigmarole: 2 points a day, you get 2 points from running The Birdcage (new TFO), Iupiter Iratus, Operation Wolf, or the new story episode; or 1 point each from one of two or three new patrols.

Operation wolf it is! You have to actually play it but its not a bad instance.

Leak appears to be real, go get your free t5 ship!

Again, unless something more particular catches your eye, the D'Kyr is a good pick because it gets you two admiralty cards instead of one.

Other suggestions, depending on what you're looking for:

Dyson Science Destroyers. These ships are a very unique aesthetic, and are worth considering on that basis if that's what you're looking for.

Temporal Battlecruiser - Ranger. If you have the tier 6 Paladin class (it's a common giveaway ship), this will unlock a TOS era skin for the Paladin.

Multi-Vector Advanced Escort. If you have the Hestia (tier 6 Prometheus), this brings the console for Multi-Vector Assault Mode. MVAM is not good, but if you want to play around with it here you go.

Kar'fi Battle Carrier. If you have the Gok'tad from a previous event, this is an alternate skin and can be kitbashed with it.

Well, there goes the Hall of Fame...
So, a fun challenge question: if (somehow) a person had missed every T6 ship giveaway or event (or just started playing STO today, for some reason), which T5 ship would you say holds up the best as a viable, cheap DPS (probably DEW) or control platform (considering seating, consoles, etc.) and why? Extensions into T5-U, experimental upgrades (Tier 5-U/X), and other nonsense are fine justifications.

I want to say the Dyson warbird, but I feel there is/are better answer/s because of how singularity cores (vs. warp cores) are. Second thoughts would be on the Avenger (instead of the Regent), as an alternate point-of-entry to the Baby Step series. (Though, the Regent would at least unlock a skin for that upgrade path...)

EDIT: Oh, also forgot the T5-Tac Scimitar.

They're usable. Not great, but if you want to play around with a gimmicky weapons build that doesn't use weapons power, I guess you can try that now.

New story mission is fine so far. No ludocapitalist dissonance of selling a new upgrade that's completely useless in the newest story mission. You even get to take your full bridge crew on the ground portion, so it's a little less terrible. The exposition engrams aren't the most annoying things, and no new obvious time-gates besides them.

Just finished the new story mission, and it's pretty good, overall. Well-executed combat sections, straightforward boss mechanic, decent storyline, and the worst waiting is for the bridges to materialize.

Biggest issue is apparently you're supposed to play through the new TFO before the story mission. That's not really telegraphed well, and this is the first time in recent memory that important story beats are in a TFO.

Going forward, I'd really like to see them shrink the scale. Some of the best ST episodes have been the small, personal stories, and establishing some kind of acquaintances or classmates or something for our captains would go a long way to fitting them in the universe. And we still haven't had a wacky broken holodeck episode.

Outside of tutorials, the only one I can think of is for TOS captains when you go to the Kelvin timeline. Your old buddy is an admiral in charge of whatever nonsense is going on and wondering what the hell you’re doing there because you’re supposed to be a head instructor at the academy.

Well crud, I didn't play the TFO yet.

Overall this is probably as good a season climax as the Iconian War? Really its only problem is the same problem Discovery ran in to when trying to tell 'real' stories with Mirror Universe characters. You can't whip-saw between them being cartoon villains and real people who have loved ones.

And agreed- the pacing is generally good, fights make sense, and the final battle builds off the last episode and mechanics they've been focusing on.

Next season? Lower decks. Pakled clump ships.

Yea, the space-barbie from this update is just abhorrent. Can't change anything about the boffs, and I spent 15 minutes looking for the costume unlock.

Not on boffs at all.
Not in captain's uniforms.
It's its own distinct uniform category that only your captain can wear. With limited undershirts.

That STILL have missing textures for Trill.

I can't tell if they're doing another 'referencing something from STO's past" with some of the adversaries in the new TFO. I remember there was a Singh arc back in the day, but I don't remember if there were Jackson and Johnsons?

The old Dominion arc that's still in the game visits the Prime version of the same prison. Singh was an inmate there. Can't say a thing about Jackson and Johnson though.

New episode was okay-ish. My boffs died all the time but that's normal. I've done it twice to have enough of the new plasma beams to outfit a whole ship with, because they do look nice and they have a nice effect on kill. I doubt i'll ever do it again though.

I'm still awaiting whatever the new anniversary bundle is, hoping they do it in the same style as the previous one, because all I wanted out of that was the Lexington.

A very remote possibility, based on the final scene of the episode, we could see mirror-Hugh if they did go that route. Which would be nice, since Hugh is a good character.

Fidel Cuckstro
Jul 2, 2007

I'm sure CBS would have just said 'absolutely not' but I think this episode would have worked 10x better if it had been prime-universe Beverly trying to stop/save/connect-with Mirror Universe Wesley, who'd killed his mom.

If nothing else, it would have avoided the terran/mother dynamic that doesn't work for most of her lines.

All signs point to a copy of the 12th bundle, but likely with worse ships. Leaks so far are a Terran Aquarius Pilot Raider (called the Eagle, with a console made for stealth torp builds), a Terran Hestia Destroyer, a Terran Nebula (probably Command-spec, no idea on seating but it's hard to imagine changed seating that will be better than the existing Nebula), and a Terran Sirius (25th century mirror Gal-X). No credible leaks on if they'll be adding a lockbox ship to the big bundle like the 12th, but the fact that they just so happened to fix a minor display issue with the Styx admiralty card is suggestive.

tl;dr It's going to be like the 12th, you'll be able to buy the ships individually in z-store.

Trip report for the new patrols:

New ground patrol is good. No silly mechanics, just shooting bad guys in corridors and big rooms. They're Mirror Borg, so no adaptation shenanigans to work around. Kit your boffs out and enjoy an orgy of violence.
New space patrol is... fine. There's an annoying asteroid dragging mechanic in the first half that slows things down, and it feels light on overall targets. The last boss actually managed to get my Engineer captain in a legendary Sovvy below 50% health, so escorts and warbirds might have some trouble there?

Both are short and don't depend on other idiots, so it's a win in my book.

Hope you've got literally billions of ec for ship traits and consoles. PVP nowadays is all about placates, stealth, and high speed alpha strikes. If you don't have a PVP build, you'll spend most of the fight unable to even target your opponents, much less damage them. And it's extremely p2win.

If you want more details, you'll have to find someone else to ask. PVP and PVE builds diverged a very long time ago, and I don't keep up with the PVP stuff. PVE builds designed to solo elite TFOs borrowed a few survivability and stealth tricks from PVP, but that's about it.
