Seems like Prigozhin and Strelkov are well and truly at each other's throats. I would imagine this wouldn't sit very well with the higher ups of the FSB currently protecting Strelkov, so maybe Prigozhin will be taught a lesson if he continues to flap his jaw.

Wasn't enough to destroy Bradleys in advance in September, now the brainlets claim to have destroyed Abrams in Bakhmut. Which desert did you good for nothings find in Bakhmut for this propaganda anyway?

The Saudi Arabian army is one of the few forces more corrupt and incompetent than Russia. There's been years and years of armchair general analysis of how the Sauds managed to lose so many tanks to Yemen rebels, and ultimately its because the tankers are loving stupid. Abrams are tough, but not invincible.

Mostly if you follow them on twitter they'll link to their stuff.

1. Michael Kofman - https://twitter.com/KofmanMichael https://warontherocks.com/
2. Lawrence Freedman - https://twitter.com/LawDavF - https://samf.substack.com/p/welcome-to-comment-to-freed?r=72szy&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web
3. Jack Watling - This is a cheat and a little unfair, I use Jack as a proxy for 'RUSI' because he's their main researcher for Russia military stuff. https://rusi.org/explore-our-research/regions-and-country-groups/ukraine. As an organisation I don't think anyone is publishing any kind of academic quality research on the course of the war that's on the level RUSI has been producing.
4. Mark Galeotti - https://twitter.com/MarkGaleotti https://inmoscowsshadows.wordpress.com/ - Mark is a top Kremlinologist. He has a blog but In Moscow's Shadows is also a weekly(ish) podcast.

Rob Lee does good social media aggregation but doesn't really write much by himself. The above list is for analysis and understanding rather than news. I'd also rate Dara Massicot.

Idk what the deal with these soldiers is, but there's several videos of Yemenis literally walking - I wouldn't even call it sneaking - into outposts in combat zones (which aren't secured, have no perimeter, no sentry, mines or anything like a wire) and killing everyone inside. It's utterly unbelievable. These soldiers had G36 and modern kit.

You need a soldier to go with all the kit.... something appears to be lacking.

What do you mean by "this kind?"

It's a specific offshoot of political science grift that's barely better than astrology, clad in the vocabulary of the trade, yet somehow manages to run institutes with dedicated employees and nice bureaus. May or may not be closely associated with an university, where these people teach. Somehow this all is securely financed - not like the actual institutes at the university - where poo poo literally falls apart.

We (think a small country in central europe) had something like this for the US, which was nicely funded, would do all sorts of events and publications. The US ambassador would come to certain lectures every year to talk about stuff, and this institute would offer trips to Washington DC and meetings with mid-level US officials there and god knows what.

Russia would do the same, they had a similar thing running there, with their own russia experts on foreign policy and whatever field of russia's state, military or economy you wanted. Same trips, same system, same pipeline if you'd be able to speak russian and show effort. I don't think speaking russian was even a requirement for a while now. Lol. Kinda on the nose.

I'd go to these events and listen to their rambling and look at their stuff and the question is always "from where would you know that, what's your source" and ofc there was never any hard data or anything resembling a source.

That was a while before "open source" became a thing, an era of wild armchairing. The whole setup is there to shape the discourse of opinion leaders, use various means to influence people that will be in interesting positions eventually. Some of "this kind" are better than others, some are more interesting.

PS is an interesting case, because it's occasionally not only a dead end, but a pipeline into public administration, journalism, etc. There's a certain substrate of military guys picking it up in the mid of their careers - the people that I spent most of the time.

Anyway, I'll take some chicken nuggests and large fries please.

To be fair if you were looking for a good time to find either a moral or even cynical self-serving objector inside the FSB or Russian military the present is pretty much as a good as it gets. I'll bet plenty of people are looking for the door with increasing urgency.

Vladimir Osechkin, the guy who founded gulagu.net, says that the FSB more or less resembles a kicked over anthill right now and many agents and employees are looking for a way out before Russia suffers an irrecoverable defeat in the war.

His competition went "If Russia invades Poland and the Baltic states we should not help. Russia trying to conquer Europe is not our problem, even though we are on the list to be conquered too. We should just stay out of it. I for one welcome our new Russian Overlord."

He got 42% of the votes anyway.
