Same. Robert has said it won’t happen though, because he never wants people to have to pay for Cool Zone’s shows, and it’s not at all clear (at least to me) whether iHeart would even allow it. So yeah, bring on the “Hi! It’s Meghan Trainor! Remember me?? I’ve got a podcast now!” horrors I guess.

Wedge Regret
Its become so bad I can't loving listen to it as just a thing to have on in the background because I need to be able to get to a skip button.

Also if you listen in the first hour the episode is up the servers usually gently caress the ads up pretty bad, last episode I got about 10 minutes of the episode just repeating, like I went back literally 5 minutes.

The real bastards ARE the products and services that support the podcasts.

Every now and then spotify's ad inserter breaks and I'll get the midepisode music letting me know to alt tab back over to it so I can hit skip15 a few times, and it immediately plays the adbreak-over musical sting. Those day are good days, same as the Gold advertisements

I assume it's an iHeart thing, because there's plenty of Podcasts out there that have an free-ad-supported version and a pay-ad-free version.

For some strange reason, I have gotten multiple eps where all the ad breaks play the same two Country music podcasts from the "Mississipi Podcast Network" ads. I live in NORWAY.

But but I need to know how this hand writing analyisis expert is going to help crack this unsolved murder case! Ghosts are ubdoubtedly involved. Maybe airing my own crackpot theorys of a persons guilt might get some random listeners to start harassing the person I've pointed to or try to befriend the close people who knew the victim. Im a private duhtective!

I like the ads that are just people trying to start a podcast based on their personalities alone and just assume the format will write itself. The people are always insufferable.

one of the true crime ads stood out to me as particularly tasteless and brazenly excited about wanting us to tune for all the juicy and gruesome crimes almost like it was announcing a slasher flic.

Never got into true crime stuff involving murders and stuff, the true crime that piques my interest is stuff like cons, heists etc...

I got the same ad for "wealth protection kits" maybe six times over the course of both Jordan Peterson episodes last week. It was simultaneously very much on-brand for Evans' style of cheerful doomerism and an audible scam targeting scared boomers.

I used to get only two rotating ads on every iHeart thing I listened to, one was to consider adopting older underprivileged children, from the US department of human services, and one for some committee to end school shootings

Which I weird because I'm Australian, now it's all just podcast ads

These episodes about Andrew Tate are sure something

This guy is extremely open about doing crimes and telling other people to do crimes to get rich and then just pay lawyers to make your problems go away

That's on top of the creepy sex trafficking and rape stuff

I feel odd saying Ceaușescu is my favorite dictator? Certainly the most interesting but I find stan culture surrounding no poo poo murderers to be just a hint tasteless.

But holy poo poo I’m hyped for this episode, what a loving weird dude. Him, not Joey Jo-Jo Stalindoo, was what made a younger me realize “oh wait the left can be up it’s own rear end about authority too! And boy in some hosed up ways!”

I never had anything else but podcast commercials on btb. That’s probably because I’m from Europe and they don’t have any products that sell over here. It’s increasingly shittier podcasts, but still less bad than shady gold companies or something I guess.

The “buy gold” ads have been in pretty heavy rotation for a while now. They make fun of those ads every few shows or so, it’s just one of those things they can’t control.

I’ve been listening to episodes of the Behind the Police and Insurrections miniseries on Spotify, and there’s been some fucky ad-cuts where someone gets cut off mid sentence for unannounced ads, they resume where it left off, and then a few minutes later the regular ad break happens.

I’m glad they covered how Tate and other awful people raise their profile by deliberately saying outrageous things and then reaping the attention of the media/internet. It reminds me of an interview Dan from Knowledge Fight did on Decoding the Gurus. He was saying that internet dunk culture is very good for Alex Jones because tons of people share Alex’s stuff and say “look at this loving clown!” And the vast majority of people agree that he’s a loving clown, and the sharer gets their dopamine from all the likes, but then just a few % of people go “hmmm, this guy actually sounds interesting, I should check out his site.” No such thing as bad publicity etc.

There’s no real defense against it either. People aren’t not going to share outrageous stuff, because it’s good for the sharer to do so. Hell, I had never heard of a few apparently super-famous people (Logan Paul, The Liver King, Tate) until their scandals broke or they got busted, because then virtually all the content creators I follow were making videos about them in order to get views from all the controversy.

The click/view-based economy is one of the worst things to happen to humanity.
