Most people's idea of training a dog is yelling "stop it, why do you keep doing that?!" more at the world in general than the actual dog when it shits on the carpet for the eleventh time.

That's how some parents - not looking at my sister, oh no - also bring up their young kids. "Kid, stop it" without any movement to indicate to 12 month old pulling all my dad's precious vinyl recordings out and all over the floor that 'stop it' = 'cease and desist this action you are doing'. I was the only one who would say 'stop it' and simultaneously remove kid from action station. She did the same when he pulled off his dirty nappy and smeared the contents all over the sofa.

I see the logic - if childhood lasts a lifetime then at some point we're going to have let these adult children see hardcore porn so that they can learn how to make more infinite children. :thunk:

How about instead of trying to implement an unworkable solution we just teach children better sexual education to combat the issues?

"What! I wont have some teacher telling my kids about sex"

Oh are you going to do it then?

She added that the comments were an "insult" to the legacy of Dame Louise Ellman, Ms Johnson's predecessor as Liverpool Riverside MP who temporarily quit Labour over the party's handling of antisemitism allegations under Jeremy Corbyn.'

if someone said it was offensive to my legacy for my successor to say that a government where the new Minister of National Security has convictions for inciting racial hatred and membership of a terrorist group, has called for mass expulsions of 'disloyal' minorities, kept a framed portrait of a racist mass-murderer in his living room, and less than four months ago 'took part in the clashes between Israeli Jewish settlers and the local Palestinian residents, brandishing a gun, telling the police to shoot at Palestinians throwing stones at the scene, and yelling at them that "We're the landlords here, remember that, I am your landlord."' was a fascist government, i would probably reconsider my legacy tbh

I'm a Sad Panda.
When I run I'll often have little dogs trying to run towards my ankles and owners seemingly confused why the dog is doing it. Having said that, dogs on leads can be fun too. Owner walking down the middle of the path with dogs on both sides and oblivious that I might not always want to hurdle the lead.

My granny was bit by a neighbours small yappy dog and so after that got really panicky anytime an unleashed dog walked past. Would also be times when we'd be sat at a bench and someone's dog comes up trying to sniff or lick which she didn't fully appreciate either.

I am totally game for changing laws around dogs. But only if the welfare of the dog is actually thought about. The "all dogs on leads' people seem to just ignore that UK gardens are tiny and dog parks are almost non existent.

It's almost as if dog parks/beaches exist for this sole reason in other countries - then there can be no complaints of "why is your dog approaching me"
Just ask those Qatari developers being funded by Tories to put one in, I'm sure they'll oblige

While the sentiment in this thread is understandable, you've also got to remember that the majority of people in this country are poo poo cunts, probably abuse their dogs and are absolutely a danger when out and about. Pit Bulls, Staffies and what not when under duress are notably aggressive dogs. Let's not forget that. Unfortunately, it's usually not the animal's fault, but their poo poo owners/handlers.

Personally I trust 0 dogs I've not met before and interacted with. People who let their dogs off leash walking along the sidewalk next to bike lanes can also get hosed.

Yeah I must say, telling people to "grow up and stop being afraid of a thing" when it's a thing they might have legit trauma or past injury as a reason for that fear doesn't seem very comradely and I think makes you a bit of a oval office frankly.

It is the owners fault of course but given there's not much to be done about that I am sort of alright with dogs having to be kept on a lead. Sometimes even that doesn't help, a little wappy dog on a lead being walked by an old lady jumped up and bit me on the arse and upper thigh a few years back and then she (the woman) had the front to look all appalled when I shouted "what the fuckkkkkkk" very loudly in surprise. As I was walking further along another woman with a dog on a lead who'd seen/heard it walked up and indicated the dog had tried to attack her dog as well. When I got to work and sat down I noticed it had actually drawn blood which was pretty surprising. Didn't traumatise me obviously but if someone got bit or attacked by a dog as a kid, I wouldn't judge them for being uncomfortable with them either.
