Apex was the last real step forward (and imo it's success was more that it refined what was currently popular more than that it was particularly groundbreaking. Feels like much of the rest of the industry has been on a downward trajectory since the TF2/BF1 era, too.

Vanilla mp has been working for me recently. I still get kicked out of the mm lobby sometimes but usually get a game in a minute or two.

I found Eternal utterly exhilarating at launch and couldn’t get enough of it, but with time in between, I find it an overly-complex and tonally odd game to go back to now. Titanfall 2’s perception only seems to get stronger, especially regarding the campaign.

Yeah, Eternal gives a pretty good first impression but my opinion of it did almost a complete 180 at around the 2/3rds mark of the story. Even looking at gameplay footage of it nowadays kinda makes me annoyed

Eternal was okay. I wasn't a fan of the jumping bits and the need to use certain weapons in rotation for required kill time and kill order was annoying. I get what they were going for, the fights being a puzzle, but do not swat me in the nose, reset it, then tell me no when I don't do it exactly as you expect. I have the same issue with GTA/RDR2 missions. Sucks about missing out on a Titanfall game though, loved the second one.

I liked it more than you guys but did it have a big mech that I clomp around in and tells me stuff like "you are outnumbered 3 to 1, suggest aggressive sustained counterfire"? No it does not. The choice seems obvious.

Speaking of set pieces, this is probably one of my all-time favorite moments in a game. I just tested it on both Playstation and PC (on Steam Deck, lol) and it works fine. So does regular multiplayer. I can't imagine that Xbox is somehow borked while the other two aren't. The game occasionally times out while matchmaking on both platforms, but if you wait 2 - 3 minutes you will get a match provided you want to play Frontier Defense, Attrition, and even Bounty Hunt. It doesn't look like Pilot v Pilot, Titan Brawl, or Amped Hardpoint are working quite as well - gave me 15 minute match times if I only selected those and I didn't wait it through as I figured I would get hit with a time-out while waiting. So yes, again, you can play Titanfall 2 multiplayer on PC and console, right now, with no special stuff. No Northstar (although Northstar is extremely cool, but it's also a complete trainwreck for anyone that isn't an elite player), no DDOS attacks, you will infrequently time-out while matchmaking but you can get right back into the queue and get a game in a reasonable amount of time, and the skill curve is 100% good on Frontier Defense (tons of people still playing Easy and Normal games) and mildly skewed towards psychos and pubstompers on Attrition and Bounty Hunt (out of about 10 games over the last week, 3 of them had lobbies where it was a total one-sided stomp to the point that it wasn't fun). Titanfall 2 is still very much alive and still very much rocks.

I can't launch the game, either from Steam or the EA app. It just says there's an issue on their and and I should try again. Anyone else met this (and maybe found a solution)?

The cracks are starting to show in Apex Legends. This season, for the first time ever, they're not introducing a new character. The meta has been extremely bad and they're promising changes, as well as assuring new players that it's a great time to jump in. They've also removed their Arena mode and replaced it with Team Deathmatch, thus blurring the line a bit between TF2 and AL. Since I am fairly convinced that Apex must die for Titanfall to live, this is going to be interesting.
