Schaff has improved since turning face, but Meyers has gotten even more annoying. at least he’s now just tickling people’s beards rather than kissing them Deino-style. I’ve never been able to enjoy Randy (sorry bud but “look how queer and loud and weird I am!” when he’s not actually any of those things is… bad) which is why it’s so odd to me. And I finally got to see Nick Wayne win via submission! the whole match he was getting worked over by Cody Chuun (who is normally very, uh, just kinda there) but tonight went full-on pissy, bitter heel and it was GREAT. I was bitching to my pal about how Nick needs a submission (everyone does!) and boom, prayers answered. the kid has learned how to talk too! we love to see it!

Cody Chhun would definitely benefit from a full heel turn. I don't know how that would work with C4, but Guillermo's been heel before so it's not a stretch. Chhun/Wayne is a match that I hope people don't miss, it was incredibly fun. I believe it streams on Thursday. Killer show overall, and I got to talk to several of the wrestlers afterward. I've met Travis Williams before because I see him in Vancouver all the time, but Artemis Spencer is really chill, and Vert Vixen is super nice too. It was really funny, after most of the crowd cleared out there was a huge lineup wrapping around the side of the ring to meet Nick Wayne, but then I spotted Zack Sabre Jr. just hanging out over to the side with nobody around. ZSJ is legit the friendliest wrestler I've ever met. I thought I was just going to be able to say hi and thank him for the match and that would be it, but he really genuinely wanted to talk and we ended up having a whole conversation about New Japan and some of the stuff that's been happening for the last few months, and the regional PNW indie scene that's been blowing up lately. He'd really like to come up to BC and possibly wrestle El-P since he's from here. Just an incredibly solid dude.

Randy Myers is easily the most consistently over face in the company and even the kissing spot isn’t really played as dastardly heel queer baiting. he happily and consensually kisses fans while coming to the ring, his face opponents are usually confused but go with it, and heels treat it like a distraction. he’s great. everyone should love him.

If he’s gonna come back to Cascadia I would LOVE to see him work with Daniel Makabe, especially if Makabe plans to retire soon which I believe he’s mentioned. He’s such a thoughtful and lovely fella, always a delight to watch and talk to. If I recall correctly, there was a “loser leaves town” match that Chuun lost last year? if so, I’m glad that stip didn’t stick (though him coming back under a mask yet still very clearly being himself woulda been a hoot). but yeah mea culpa on the Myers thing, glad to hear my reservations on his character stuff was wrong, and good on him for being beloved by the fanbase. he just doesn’t do it for me in-ring even with the character stuff aside  anyhow, sick show top to bottom, check it out if you can. relieved that they got an opponent for Artie so he could have a match since the dude is great. the escape goat fucked around with this message at 23:22 on Feb 12, 2023 |
